Hey Cristina, I hear you had one heck of a long trip back from slot land. Sounds like you had a lot of fun. Thanks for the welcome. Good to be back I think. I have been hiding for awhile and taking cover. Didn't know if it was safe to come out from under the bed yet - still unsure; feel like I have been branded. Sabra

This Land Is Your LandWritten by: Woody GuthrieThis land is your land, This land is my land, From California To the New York island, From the Redwood Forest, To the Gulf stream waters, This land was made for you and me. As I was walking, That ribbon of highway, I saw above me That endless skyway, I saw below me That golden valley. This land was made for you and me. I've roamed and rambled And I've followed my footsteps To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts And all around me a voice was sounding This land was made for you and me The sun comes shining As I was strolling The wheat fields waving And the dust clouds rolling The fog was lifting a voice come chanting This land was made for you and me As I was walkin' I saw a sign there And that sign said no tress passin' But on the other side It didn't say nothin! Now that side was made for you and me! In the squares of the city In the shadow of the steeple Near the relief office I see my people And some are grumblin' And some are wonderin' If this land's still made for you and me. Nobody living can ever stop me As I go walking That freedom highway Nobody living can make me turn back This land was made for you and me ------- Sabra... just read your post. Too much fun on the trip and a heck of an adventure going home.

Mind Games by John Lennon We're playing those mind games together Pushing the barriers, planting seeds Playing the mind guerrilla Chanting the mantra, peace on earth We all been playing those mind games forever Some kinda druid dudes, lifting the veil Doing the mind guerrilla Some call it magic, the search for the grail Love is the answer And you know that for sure Love is a flower You got to let it, you got to let it grow So keep on playing those mind games together Faith in the future, outta the now You just can't beat on those mind guerrillas Absolute elsewhere in the stones of your mind Yeah we're playing those mind games forever Projecting our images in space and in time Yes is the answer And you know that for sure Yes is surrender You got to let it, you got to let it go So keep on playing those mind games together Doing the ritual dance in the sun Millions of mind guerrillas Putting their soul power to the karmic wheel Keep on playing those mind games forever Raising the spirit of peace and love Love I want you to make love, not war I know you've heard it before I want you to lay down your sword I know you've heard it before Love, Maria

Loved Lennon's Mind Games, Maria. Space Monkey by Patti Smith Blood on the T.V., ten o'clock news. Souls are invaded, heart in a groove. Beatin' and beatin' so outta time. What's the mad matter with the church chimes? Here comes a stranger up on Ninth Avenue. Leanin' green tower, indiscreet view. Over the cloud, over the bridge, sensitive muscle, sensitive ridge of my space monkey. Sign of the time-time Space monkey, so outta line-line. Space monkey, sort of divine. And he's mine, mine, all mine. Pierre Clementi, snot full o' cocaine. The sexual streets, why it's all so insane. Humans are running, lavender room. Hoverin' liquid, move over moon for my space monkey. Sign of the time-time Space monkey, sort of divine-vine Space monkey, so out of line and he's mine, mine, oh he's mine (spoken) A stranger comes up to him; hands him an old, rusty Polaroid. It starts crumbling in his hands. He says, "Oh man, I don't get the picture. This is no picture. This is just...this just-a...this just-a... This is my jack-knife. This is my jack-knife. This is my jack-knife. This is my jack." [shriek] Rude excavation, landin' site. Boy hesitatin', jack-knife. He rips his leg open, so out of time. Blood and light runnin'. It's all like a dream. Light of my life, he's dressed in flame. It's all so predestined. It's all such a game for my space monkey. Sign of the time-time. Space monkey, sort of divine-vine. Space monkey, so out of line and it's all just space, just space. There he is, up in a tree. Oh, I hear him callin' down to me. That banana-shaped object ain't no banana. It's a bright, yellow U.F.O. And he's coming to get me. Here I go. Up, up, up, up, up, up, up ,up, up ... Oh, goodbye mama. I'll never do dishes again. Here I go from my body. Ha. Ha. Ha. Ha. Ha. Ha. Help!

Time for a Joni Mitchell interlude with one of my favorites of hers. This is another song I used to listen to over and over . What a voice !! She wrote this when she was 21. I found midi's with just the music, but I wanted one with the words sung. I found it (the link is below), but its only a 45 second excerpt. I think it is still better than listening to just the music. The other link below is a very short clip of Joni talking about Both Sides Now. I just love this song . Sabra Both Sides Now by Joni Mitchell Rows and flows of angel hair And ice cream castles in the air And feather canyons everywhere I've looked at clouds that way But now they only block the sun They rain and they snow on everyone So many things I would have done But clouds got in my way I've looked at clouds from both sides now From up and down, and still somehow It's cloud illusions I recall I really don't know clouds at all Moons and Junes and Ferris wheels The dizzy dancing way that you feel As every fairy tale comes real I've looked at love that way But now it's just another show And you leave 'em laughing when you go And if you care, don't let them know Don't give yourself away I've looked at love from both sides now From give and take, and still somehow It's love's illusions I recall I really don't know love Really don't know love at all Tears and fears and feeling proud To say "I love you" right out loud Dreams and schemes and circus crowds I've looked at life that way Oh but now old friends they're acting strange And they shake their heads And they tell me that I've changed Well something's lost but something's gained In living every day I've looked at life from both sides now From win and lose and still somehow It's life's illusions I recall I really don't know life at all It's life's illusions I recall I really don't know life I really don't know life at all COPYRIGHT 1967 (RENEWED) CRAZY CROW MUSIC BOTH SIDES NOW Joni talks about Both Sides Now

City of New OrleansWords and Music by Steve Goodman. This song appears on three albums, and was first released on the Poems, Prayers and Promises album, is also available on The Country Roads Collection album and has also been rerecorded on All Aboard! album. Riding on the City of New Orleans Illinios Central, Monday morning rail 15 cars and 15 restless riders 3 conductors and 25 sacks of mail All along a southbound odyssey The train pulls out of Kankakee Rolls along past houses, farms and fields Passing trains that have no name Freight yards full of old black men The graveyards of the rusted automobiles
Singing good morning America, how are you? Saying, don't you know me I’m your native son? I’m the train they call the City of New Orleans I'll be gone 500 miles when the day is done Dealing cards with the old men in the club car Penny a point, ain’t no one keeping score Pass the paper bag that holds the bottle Feel the wheels a rumbling ’neath the floor And the sons of Pullman porters And the sons of engineers Ride their fathers’ magic carpet made of steel And mothers with their babes asleep Rockin’ to the gentle beat And the rhythm of the rails is all they feel Singing good morning America, how are you? Saying don’t you know me, I'm your native son? I’m the train they call the City of New Orleans I’ll be gone 500 miles when the day is done Nighttime on the City of New Orleans Changing cars in Memphis, Tennessee Halfway home and we’ll be there by morning Through the Mississippi darkness rolling down to the sea But all the towns and people seem To fade into a bad dream And the steel rails still ain’t heard the news The conductor sings his song again The passengers will please refrain This train has got the disappearing railroad blues Singing good morning America, how are you? Saying don’t you know me, I'm your native son? I’m the train they call the City of New Orleans I’ll be gone 500 miles when the day is done --------------- Hi Maria, Sabra & Snowpea!

Hi Snowpea, Cristina and (a Beatles version for) Maria, I know that Cristina (thank you) posted two Hava Nagila midi's on the "the forgotten Faces ..here they are again" thread several days ago. Reminded me of Sunday school , because I use to hear both versions a lot. Those two are good ones and they are very common, but somewhat generic. I thought you may like the below, because when you hear the words sung to it; well, see (or hear rather) for yourself on the link below. First, here are the words translated to English: HAVA NAGILA LET US REJOICE & BE GLAD Hava nagila, hava nagila Let us rejoice Hava nagila venis'mecha and be glad Repeat Hava neranena, hava neranena Let us sing Hava nagila venis'mecha and be glad Uru, uru achim Awaken brethren Uru achim belev same'ach With a cheerful heart. Below is one of the best versions I have ever heard. If you enjoy the Hora, you really have to hear this. Near the end there are 2 or 3 seconds of silence, so make sure it plays to the end if you do listen to it. It is performed by the Barry Sisters who are almost like a Jewish version of the Andrew Sisters . I closed my eyes while listening and I have to say I got very homesick and a little choked up. But it is a very joyous Israeli folk song. I hope you three enjoy it as much as I did. If you have any problems with the links or downloading it, let me know. Hava Nagila - Barry Sisters They sing some English with it also, although it is not the exact translation as above. Here are some of the words: quote: Dance where the wheat grows high, under a golden sky, dance where the wine was born.Dance, everyone dance. Whirl and turn about, lift up your arms and shout, join hands and kick along. Dance, everyone dance. Turn left, turn right hold tight. Lift your feet, your heart will follow. Lift your voice, fill the hollow. Spread your wings, like a swallow. Spread your wings, like a swallow. Fly away...greet the day! Dance, dance everybody dance.
Below is a Beatles version (just the music) believe it or not : Hava Nagila - Beatles version Of course, we had Hava Nagila played at my wedding. Below is a link with six small pics (not mine) of a Jewish wedding and the Hora. Our wedding was just like the ones you see on the link below (it is a quick load). The bride sits in a chair and is lifted up and the groom is lifted up in another chair with a handkerchief between them (third pic on the right). While both are sitting in the chair holding on to this handkerchief, the chairs are rotated in a circle. In the meantime, the rest of the guests are doing the Hora around them (1st pic on the left). Usually the Hora is made up from 2 to 4 circles within each other and each circle of people dances the opposite way. (One circle clockwise and another circle counter-clockwise.) This is exactly what we did at our wedding. The Hora is not only done at weddings, but for any joyous occasion (without the chair lifting, lol). The handkerchief is very symbolic. Briefly, the bridegroom indicates his agreement to fulfill obligations of the ketuba by taking hold of a handkerchief or piece of cloth. Hava Nagila - wedding pictures Sabra Snowpea - the below is only after you have your baby .
quote: Steps for Hava Nagila1. Step right foot; cross left foot over right keep weight on right foot - for 2 beats 2. Bringing left foot back to original position, Step left foot; cross right foot over left keeping weight on left foot - for 2 beats 3. Step right foot; left foot steps behind right for 2 beats
This is a 6 beat pattern in a 4/4 song. Hava Nagila is sung in Hebrew its mode makes it a GREAT example of the influence in Israeli music of the European Jewish wedding band music - the style that has become known these days as Klezmer.

Hey Cristina, you grab him from that side and I've got this side, and wrap arms around arms and here we go... Hava nagila ... Sabra, thanks for sending this e-mail. I tried to hear it on-site on another one of those times I got here, but when I clicked the first link it tried to start the Real Player and I disconnected, heh. Love you, Maria

Hi Maria, Cristina and Snowpea, Cristina - Glad that you enjoyed the Barry Sisters version. Pretty good isn't. They sing it with a lot of enthusiasm and spirit . It almost made me want to get a plane ticket and take a trip. I liked the English words to it also. I haven't heard Belafonte sing it before, so I downloaded it when you mentioned it. Nothing against Belafonte, but let's just say the Barry Sisters spoiled me . Maria couldn't get the RealPlayer link working and since it is just a link, there wasn't a way to download it. So I downloaded a Napster like program and took some time to search all over the web to see if anybody had the Barry Sisters version. I actually found the exact same recording that somebody had in Mp3 format. I downloaded it and converted it to a WMA file and it sounds great . I emailed the file to Maria already and I can email it to you if you want it. After I zipped it, the file size is right under 3 megs. Maria - You've got (old) mail . I emailed the song to you along with the Beatles version the other day. I know you are swamped, but could you just take a second and let me know if you got it so I don't think my email went into the great vast cyberspace void ?
I think Snowpea is busy having a baby . Sabra ps That was a "wonderful gesture" regarding the tree dedication. About a hundred years ago, Israel was mostly swamp and desert, with very few trees. So reforestation was and still is a high priority. In this effort, trees in Israel have been planted by people from all corners of the globe to honor loved ones or to commemorate someone dear. Thus, the forests are living legacies populated by millions of trees dedicated to millions of people throughout the world. It usually marks the birth of a child or grandchild, a marriage, a Bar/Bat Mitzva, or in memory of a family member. It's a way of giving something of yourself and making a physical connection to Israel.

Hi Sabra! , please do email the file. I'd love to have the WMA file too. Can you also include the Harry Belafonte version. I like Belafonte. The email's still the same. Thanks! Wow, thanks for explaining the tree dedication. So it was indeed something special! I felt honored when he told us, and now knowing what it symbolizes, it gave me a feeling of warmth in my heart. He is a good and special man and employer with a wonderful heart. Snowpea having a baby? I'll go check star chat. Thank again!

Across the UniverseWriter, lead vocal: John Lennon (Let It Be, 1971) Words are flowing out like endless rain into a paper cup, They slither while they pass, they slip away across the universe Pools of sorrow, waves of joy are drifting through my open mind, Possessing and caressing me. Jai guru deva om Nothing's gonna change my world, Nothing's gonna change my world. Images of broken light which dance before me like a million eyes, They call me on and on across the universe, Thoughts meander like a restless wind inside a letter box they Tumble blindly as they make their way Across the universe Jai guru deva om Nothing's gonna change my world, Nothing's gonna change my world. Sounds of laughter shades of earth are ringing Through my open views inciting and inviting me Limitless undying love which shines around me like a million suns, it calls me on and on Across the universe Jai guru deva om Nothing's gonna change my world, Nothing's gonna change my world. --------------------- Let It Be Writer, lead vocal: Paul McCartney (Let It Be, 1971) When I find myself in times of trouble Mother Mary comes to me Speaking words of wisdom, let it be. And in my hour of darkness She is standing right in front of me Speaking words of wisdom, let it be. Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be. Whisper words of wisdom, let it be. And when the broken hearted people Living in the world agree, There will be an answer, let it be. For though they may be parted there is Still a chance that they will see There will be an answer, let it be. Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be. There will be an answer, let it be. Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be. Whisper words of wisdom, let it be. Let it be, let it be, let it be, yeah let it be. Whisper words of wisdom, let it be. And when the night is cloudy, There is still a light that shines on me, Shine on until tomorrow, let it be. I wake up to the sound of music Mother Mary comes to me Speaking words of wisdom, let it be. Let it be, let it be, let it be, yeah let it be. There will be an answer, let it be. Let it be, let it be, let it be, yeah let it be. There will be an answer, let it be. Let it be, let it be, let it be, yeah let it be. Whisper words of wisdom, let it be.

A Day In The LifeLennon & McCartneyI read the news today oh boy About a lucky man who made the grade And though the news was rather sad Well I just had to laugh I saw the photograph. He blew his mind out in a car He didn't notice that the lights have changed A crowd of people stood and stared They'd seen his face before Nobody was really sure If he was from the House of Lords. I saw a film today oh boy The English Army had just won the war A crowd of people turned away But I just had to look Having read the book I'd love to turn you on. Woke up, fell out of bed, Dragged my comb across my head Found my way downstairs and drank a cup, And looking up I noticed I was late. Found my way coat and grabbed my hat Made the bus in seconds flat Found my way upstairs and had a smoke, Somebody spoke and I went into a dream. I read the news today oh boy Four thousand holes in Blackburn, Lancashire And though the holes were rather small They had to count them all Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall. I'd love to turn you on.

Hi friend. Today I have been freezing, starving, aching, sick and sad. Life's like that sometimes, eh? Maybe tomorrow will be better. A little Elvis Costello? Can't remember if I put this one on this thread already or not... (What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love And Understanding by Elvis Costello As I walk through This wicked world Searching for light in the darkness of insanity, I ask myself Is all hope lost? Is there only pain and hatred and misery? And each time I feel like this inside, There's one thing I want to know: What's so funny 'bout peace, love and understanding? Ohhhh What's so funny 'bout peace, love and understanding? And as I walk on Through troubled times My spirit gets so downhearted sometimes. So where are the strong? And who are the trusted? And where is that harmony, sweet harmony? 'Cause each time I feel it slipping away, Just makes me want to cry. What's so funny 'bout peace, love and understanding? Ohhhh What's so funny 'bout peace, love and understanding? So where are the strong? And who are the trusted? And where is that harmony, sweet harmony? 'Cause each time I feel it slipping away, Just makes me want to cry. What's so funny 'bout peace, love and understanding? Ohhhh What's so funny 'bout peace, love and understanding? Ohhhh What's so funny 'bout peace, love and understanding? Love from another naive Aries

Maria - Take care of yourself. Eat. Sleep. Go through the motions. You are strong. This is an Aries song, and it is for you: The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow Tomorrow! Tomorrow! I Love You Tomorrow! You're Only A Day Away The sun will come out tomorrow Bet your bottom dollar That tomorrow There'll be sun! Just thinkin' about Tomorrow Clears away the cobwebs And the sorrow Til there's none! When I'm stuck with a day That's gray, And lonely, I just stick out my chin And grin, And say, Oh... The sun will come out tomorrow So ya gotta hang on til tomorrow Come what may Tomorrow! Tomorrow! I love you Tomorrow! You're always A day Away! Your friend, Joyce
