Anyone heard about this today??
The B*** administration has unveiled a new plan to help "curb" terrorism. Its expected a million utility workers, (meter readers, cable guys, telephone installers, etc) will sign up for this program to phone a HOTLINE when the "see suspicious activity" in someones home.

I see this as nothing more than an addition to racial profiling, in which having a copy of the Qu'ran in the home will deem one a "terrorist".
I cant believe people are putting up with this. Talk about being brainwashed.
Check out any newsite today for hints of what will become the mark of the beast instagated by an anti-christ.

George Orwells 1984 has nothing on this crap!

An article on Operation TIPS - this is freaky, very Orwellian stuff. Almost too much for me to belive....

US planning to recruit one in 24 Americans as citizen spies
By Ritt Goldstein
July 15 2002

The Bush Administration aims to recruit millions of United States citizens as domestic informants in a program likely to alarm civil liberties groups.

The Terrorism Information and Prevention System, or TIPS, means the US will have a higher percentage of citizen informants than the former East Germany through the infamous Stasi secret police. The program would use a minimum of 4 per cent of Americans to report "suspicious activity".

Civil liberties groups have already warned that, with the passage earlier this year of the Patriot Act, there is potential for abusive, large-scale investigations of US citizens.

As with the Patriot Act, TIPS is being pursued as part of the so-called war against terrorism. It is a Department of Justice project.

Highlighting the scope of the surveillance network, TIPS volunteers are being recruited primarily from among those whose work provides access to homes, businesses or transport systems. Letter carriers, utility employees, truck drivers and train conductors are among those named as targeted recruits.

A pilot program, described on the government Web site www.citizencorps.gov, is scheduled to start next month in 10 cities, with 1 million informants participating in the first stage. Assuming the program is initiated in the 10 largest US cities, that will be 1 million informants for a total population of almost 24 million, or one in 24 people.

Historically, informant systems have been the tools of non-democratic states. According to a 1992 report by Harvard University's Project on Justice, the accuracy of informant reports is problematic, with some informants having embellished the truth, and others suspected of having fabricated their reports.

Present Justice Department procedures mean that informant reports will enter databases for future reference and/or action. The information will then be broadly available within the department, related agencies and local police forces. The targeted individual will remain unaware of the existence of the report and of its contents.

The Patriot Act already provides for a person's home to be searched without that person being informed that a search was ever performed, or of any surveillance devices that were implanted.

At state and local levels the TIPS program will be co-ordinated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which

was given sweeping new powers, including internment, as part of the Reagan Administration's national security initiatives. Many key figures of the Reagan era are part of the Bush Administration.

The creation of a US "shadow government", operating in secret, was another Reagan national security initiative.

Ritt Goldstein is an investigative journalist and a former leader in the movement for US law enforcement accountability. He has lived in Sweden since 1997, seeking political asylum there, saying he was the victim of life-threatening assaults in retaliation for his accountability efforts. His application has been supported by the European Parliament, five of Sweden's seven big political parties, clergy, and Amnesty and other rights groups.

Says it all.

I am more and more convinced that the way through this proliferation of surveillance and loss of privacy is not to fight it, but instead to push forward for the public availability of ALL private information, including surveillance and tracking of all public officials, law enforcement agencies and "spy" agencies!

That may sound radical, but think about it: as much as I value my right to privacy, IN FACT I have lost that. Aside from all the police-state legislation and "executive orders" being pushed forward these days, just the technology is so powerful and sophisticated that there's no way to close pandora's box. If we succeed in getting measures enacted that "protect our privacy" at this point, it will just push the secret databases further underground, where it is MORE of a threat to liberty. Hoarding secret information that is not available to the public has ALWAYS been the cornerstone of domination-oriented politics.

There is a strong move afoot these days by freedom-oriented people to push for MORE surveillance, including surveillance of the government by the people! Shine the light of truth on everyone, and make it available to everyone ... and that neutralizes the power of "secret information."

The video vigilantes that are more and more in the news these days are a good example of this trend.

Yeah, it makes me uneasy too, but it makes more and more sense to me as the only realistic adaptation to the unstoppable expansion of surveillance and omni-databases: if there's a power that exists, and it can't be turned back, then give that power to the people!

Food for thought.

Love,
Greg

Makes me wonder what the definition of suspicious activity they are teaching these utility workers. Also, does this mean if a utility worker is repairing or doing some work in the governors residence or in the White House and notice this so called suspicious activity will they report this?

Hey, the Republicans always think the Democrats are up to suspicious activity and vice versa. During the Nixion era, they had a term for it. It was called Deep Throat (no, not the movie) and Watergate.

hahaha thanks for the laugh Sabra, I needed that!
Yesterday, on CNN something in relationship to this topic flashed on the screen about "while the government is watching you, who's watching them?".. so true!
I doubt any utility worker finding out something in the white house would live to talk about it.

Lis,sorry, I guess you're a little lost on that side of the pond!

Well, this makes me feel ill. Everyday we are just getting closer and closer to an all-American Police State, if you don't consider it to be in place already that is. Here's another article I found on TIPS very similar to the one above: Washington Times article.

quote:
"This broad network of volunteer efforts will harness the power of the American people by relying on their individual skills and interests to prepare local communities to effectively prevent and respond to the threats of terrorism, crime, or any kind of disaster," the program's description on the Web site states.

Who are they kidding? None of this is about preventing terrorism! It's all about creating a Police State! We better all just shut up and work our 9-5 jobs and pretend none of this is happening, what's wrong with people today?! I talk to people about this and it's always the same response, "oh, don't worry about, it's gonna happen eventually anyway" (and they think it's not gonna happen for another 100 years) OR it's the classic "whatever, you're crazy." Even when you show them the facts!

quote:
"This is George Orwell's '1984.' It's an absolutely horrible and very dangerous idea," he said. "It's making Americans into government snoops. President Bush wants the average American to do what the FBI should be doing. In the end, though, nothing is going to prevent terrorists from crashing planes into buildings."

Well said...

The official explanation is always that informants are needed to foresee and prevent security threats or violence. The justification for TIPS is no different. But there is another aspect of snitching that is equally important to the rulers, an aspect that George Orwell explored in depth in his acclaimed novel, 1984.

Snitching creates a culture of paranoia. It isolates people, breaks down social solidarity, and prevents exchange of information between members of society. Everyone becomes obsessed with watching their own back. Nobody is a friend. Nobody can be trusted.

Snitching creates a culture in which every encounter between two citizens is mediated by authority: Big Brother is always in the room with you. And even if it isn't, you have to behave as if it is. The ubiquity of authority is the essence of totalitarianism.

Greg

What a way to turn people in their communities against one another.

I see so much tension and strife in communities these days, this will be just another way to separate people from a community spirit and incite suspicion and fear of one another. People will abuse this for many reasons and we will be further isolated from each other. This is very classic mind control, made public and acceptable.

We cannot accept it, and we must endeavor to make trust a more prominent feature of our daily lives and interactions, as difficult as this may seem.

"Okay, Osama, the cable guy is gone now...you can come out from under the bed...."

I mean really, as if!

Well theres different ways to look at this.
Money, power and greed are IT,for sure..

Why do some bury their heads in the sand like an ostrich, others could care less, while others yet dont see certain connections with whats going on in the world?

Blas, and all you other Aries out there will tend to notice and speak up..same as ones with aquarian/uranian tendencies. Well hey! its our karmic debt and duty!

Of course things are flowing along as pre-written,no matter what stance we take.
I think its why I tend to see it as its everyones "fault"..and we are all in it together, combined with it being a fight with good and evil..which in the end is working together (???) Time will tell.
We can only work on ourselves for starters, and make US a better person, before things in the world change...thats still a few years down the road.

.."many will be purged, purified, and refined, but the wicked will act wickedly: and none of the wicked will understand, but those who have insight will understand"(from the book of Daniel,of course!)

Hey Aries,

The other night I caught the tail end of a news segment where they were asking some of the utility workers what they thought about "Operation Tips". The basic response was, "this whole thing is about spying on each other and we are not going to do that."

Now, this reminds of the "Spy vs. Spy" parody in Mad Magazine. Heh, heh. I bet Greg use to read this mag in his youth. .

Well, there is some hope.

Postal Service snubs Operation TIPS

quote:
The U.S. Postal Service said Wednesday it would not participate in a new Justice Department program that encourages millions of American workers to report suspicious activity they see while doing their routine work.

Good for them!!!

sorry to be so cynical, but what's the best way to spy on someone? without their knowledge!

now we have those of whom we are suspicious, because we think they are watching us for suspicious activity, and we have those, a government agency no less, with whom we feel perfectly safe, only because they said they weren't going to do it!

ha ha! do you really believe the government agency to be so honest and forthright? ha ha!

how brilliant -- they've now managed to confuse and cloud the issue even further!

it's even more "us against them", but "us" very well could be "them", and "them" very well could be "us". we can't really know.

mind control -- confuse and disorient the target...good cop, bad cop...etc.,

aren't our lives more important than to play games with us like this?

"In the interest of national security", the WTC disaster easily could have been avoided...citizen's lives were expendable then, and they're expendable now.

With all the racial profiling, detentions and arrests that occurred directly after the attack, and continue to occur, do you know who was given direct escort, back to Saudi Arabia, with full FBI and military coverage, when no other air traffic was allowed anywhere in the country, or in or out? Osama Bin Laden's immediate family. If you're going to detain someone on suspicion of links to terrorists, who better?

Yet they get the special treatment because they have direct ties to our current administration and oil companies -- they are the people whom our government protects, not regular citizens.

National security for whom?

This is a campaign against the people, not in their interest at all.

May we pray that more and more people will arrive at this understanding and refuse to be doped with the rhetoric of "government" PR and propaganda. Our government has been hijacked, for many years, by insidious thieves and tyrants, and we have allowed it in the name of nationality and patriotism. But it is time to recognize that this country's existence depends on the people's awakening consciousness and determination to take back their government and the values for which this country stands.

Yeah I know Snowpea,

I was just being facetious. But there is nothing funny about this at all. It is just that it is so outrageous that "In the interest of national security" is to often used as an excuse for all this and as a coverup to what you just said above. That is what I meant by my post above.

I knew that. And you're right -- the fact is, it's so ridiculous, it almost seems like a joke, except that they are so very serious....

it's like black comedy or something....I mean, how can people take this seriously? And yet so many do, it just seems so sad and funny and unreal and dangerous and hysterical all at the same time....

talk about messing with our emotions...this truly is insidious. And the best thing is to talk about it, out in the open, just like this. Thanks, Sabra.

And to remember that, ultimately all is light, and love is the source of light.

well, she could have caught him with a male..... and if so, does it really make a difference?

my point is, as you illustrate, it is done without the other party's knowledge....or am I missing something else?

and yes, I'm the first to admit, I'm a day late and a dollar short (actually, quite a few), have been for quite a while, as my manager at the fake environmental hotel used to say....(Habitat Suites Hotel, Austin, Texas)

what can I say?

lies, lies and hypocrisy every which way you turn....

yeah baby, keep the faith baby...just keep on keeping on....

till one day the sun shines bright and the earth is pure, and Eden-Heaven is ours forever.
