I got this from a news-head list I'm on that had a hot debate going over American journalists' coverage of Sept. 11 and beyond...

An interesting article in CounterPunch that seemed pertinent to topics of late: "In an August 15 news item carried by Press Gazette Online, Rena Golden, the executive vice-president and general manager of CNN International, admitted censoring news regarding the US war in Afghanistan. This censorship, she explained, 'wasn't a matter of government pressure, but a reluctance to criticize anything in a war that was obviously supported by the vast majority of the people.' "

Full article at: http://counterpunch.org/nimmo0823.html

Also, a good source for news gathered from The Guardian and elsewhere (often reporting on stories that are nowhere to be found in The New York Times, etc.) is http://cursor.org

Says Forbes magazine of the site: "A welcome contrast from the sliced-white-bread tone of so much modern mass-media journalism."

...Not that you should believe Forbes magazine...fer crying out loud! Lol. Talk about the moneyed elite!

Love,
Maria

Hi Maria,

Good links. Heh,heh. I especially liked the Cursor web site . They tell it like it is and cut right through the muck. No spinners.

The even bash MSNBC's reporter Ashleigh Banfield.

quote:
MSNBC thwacks its viewers on the head with a cudgel called Ashleigh Banfield.

I also think they are trying to say that she is just a "talking head".

quote:
Of course, this is unfair. How many anchors are anything but shells? But there is something so self-important about her latest excursion, so utterly self-obsessed, that criticism of her--even an excoriation--is a solemn duty.

Hey, I even listen to her once in awhile. But then it seem MSNBC was pushing her down our throats - she was all over the network all day long. Also there are a lot of times Banfield looks out of place from where she is reporting from.

Knowing how you just "love" CNN's "elite" reporters, I wonder if Cursor does any bashing on CNN's journalists .

Thanks for the link,

Sabra
