The original "World Love and Peace: Tribute to" thread is over 100 posts, so I am starting a new one. In reply to:
I like that song too, Sabra Thanks for posting the lyrics.
Since Sucheta liked the last song I posted, I am putting it back up again here with a link to a wav file that has Ben E. King singing Stand By Me.
Enjoy Sucheta .
Sabra
Stand By Me
Ben E. King
When the night has come
and the land is dark
and the moon is the only light we'll see.
No, I won't be afraid, Oh, I won't be afraid
Just as long as you stand, stand by me
So darling, darling, stand by me
Ohhh stand by me, ohh you stand
stand by me, stand by me
If the sky that we look upon should tumble and fall
or the mountains should crumble to the sea
I won't cry, I won't cry
No, I won't shed a tear
just as long as you stand
stand by me
And darling, darling stand by me
ohhhh, stand by me, ohh stand now
stand by me, stand by me
Darling, darling stand by me
oh, stand by me, oh stand now,
stand by me, stand by me
whenever you're in trouble
won't you stand by me,
oh stand now, stand, stand by me.

Cool! Thanks Sabra for starting a new thread ,
the recently absent-minded me keeps forgetting.
Here's one of my Beatles Fav.
In My Life
Beatles, Lennon/McCartney
There are places I remember
All my life, though some have changed
Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remain
All these places had their moments
With lovers and friends
I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I've loved them all
But of all these friends and lovers
there is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new
Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more
Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more
In my life I love you more

We Can Work It Out
Beatles, Lennon/McCartney
Try to see it my way
Do I have to keep on talking till I can't go on
While you see it your way
Run the risk of knowing that or love may soon be gone
We can work it out
We can work it out
Think of what you're saying
You can get it wrong and still you think that it's all right
Think of what I'm saying
We can work it out and get it straight or say good night
We can work it out
We can work it out
Life is very short and there's no time
for fussing and fighting, my friend
I have always thought that it's a crime
So I will ask you once again
Try to see it my way
Only time will tell of I am right or I am wrong
While you see it your
There's a chance we might fall apart before too long
We can work it out
We can work it out
Life is very short and there's no time
for fussing and fighting, my friend
I have always thought that it's a crime
So I will ask you once again
Think of what you're saying
You can get it wrong and still you think that it's all right
Think of what I'm saying
We can work it out and get it straight or say good night
We can work it out
We can work it out

Octopus's Garden
Beatles, Ringo
I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus's garden in the shade
He'd let us in, knows where we've been
In his octopus's garden in the shade
I'd ask my friends to come and see
In an octopus's garden with me
I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus's garden in the shade
We would be warm below the storm
In our little hideaway beneath the waves
Resting our head on the sea bed
In an octopus's garden near a cave
We would sing and dance around
because we know we can't be found
I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus's garden in the shade
We would shout and swim about
The coral that lies beneath the waves
Oh what joy for every girl and boy
Knowing they're happy and they're safe
We would be so happy you and me
No on e there to tell us what to do
I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus's garden with you
in an octopus's garden with you
in an octopus's garden with you

Hi Suchi,
In reply to:
Yes, the lyrics are so peppy, wonder what the actual song must be like
Look what I found for you . Click on the link Rock Around the Clock and you will hear the music. It is in mp3 format, but should play in Windows Media Player. It also may take a few minutes to load. Hope you enjoy .
Let's Rock and Roll . . .
Sabra

Rock Around The Clock
Bill Haley & The Comets
One, Two, Three O'clock, Four O'clock rock,
Five, Six, Seven O'clock, Eight O'clock rock.
Nine, Ten, Eleven O'clock, Twelve O'clock rock,
We're gonna rock around the clock tonight.
Put your glad rags on and join me hon',
We'll have some fun when the clock strikes one.
We're gonna rock around the clock tonight,
We're gonna rock, rock, rock, 'till broad daylight,
We're gonna rock, gonna rock around the clock tonight.
When the clock strikes two, three and four,
If the band slows down we'll yell for more.
We're gonna rock around the clock tonight,
We're gonna rock, rock, rock, 'till broad daylight,
We're gonna rock, gonna rock around the clock tonight.
When the chimes ring five, six, and seven,
We'll be right in seventh heaven.
We're gonna rock around the clock tonight,
We're gonna rock, rock, rock, 'till broad daylight,
We're gonna rock, gonna rock around the clock tonight.
When it's eight, nine, ten, eleven too,
I'll be goin' strong and so will you.
We're gonna rock around the clock tonight,
We're gonna rock, rock, rock, 'till broad daylight,
We're gonna rock, gonna rock around the clock tonight.
When the clock strikes twelve we'll cool off then,
Start rockin' 'round the clock again.
We're gonna rock around the clock tonight,
We're gonna rock, rock, rock, 'till broad daylight,
We're gonna rock, gonna rock around the clock tonight.

Oh, Thank you, Sabra! I wish I could locate songs on the internet with such ease. I'll play the song when my connection is better. I already got a couple of time-out messages.

Yep, there are some very nice pictures of him too in the new sections I was looking at a few days ago at georgeharrison.com. The eyes have it. I've already sent in my check for the offer that combines the new CD Brainwashed and a VHS tape about the making of the album. George talks about life in cycles. I'm really looking forward to receiving those. You can hear samples of the songs at the site. One of them is about being a Pisces fish.
Love,
 Maria

Hi Cristina,
Thanks for posting Dhani's pic, you Beatle freak you . You are so right about the amazing replica part. It is the whole face, nose, brow, chin, and bone structure that has it more than anything. On George, the eyes are drooping on the outside corners, while Dhani's eyes are straight across . Here is a very young George:
In the meantime watch out for the Blue Meanie hanging around here . Aye Aye, captain.

Maria, I was thinking of you when reading this article yesterday in Canada's Globe and Mail and thought you may want to read it. -------
But Britain's taxman likely to collect a lot less than famous song suggests
By ALAN FREEMAN Saturday, November 30, 2002 – Print Edition, Page A18
LONDON -- George Harrison left an estate valued at £98.9-million ($231-mil- lion), but that's before the taxman takes his share.
Britain's Inland Revenue Department, however, is likely to take a lot less than "one for you, 19 for me," which the ex-Beatle sings about in the famous song.
According to British tax law, any estate greater than £250,000 ($584,000) is taxed at a 40-per-cent rate, but accountants noted that if the beneficiary is the surviving spouse, the estate passes on tax free.
The High Court in London, which released the inheritance figure yesterday on the first anniversary of Mr. Harrison's death, did not disclose the beneficiaries of the estate but his widow, Olivia, and 25-year-old son, Dhani, along with charities are likely to figure high on the list.
As a member of the world's most successful pop-music group, the estate may seem a trifle modest, but watchers of Mr. Harrison note that he was generous with his money during his life.
As early as 1973, he set up the Material World Charitable Foundation, to which he donated royalties from most of the songs on his Living in the Material World recording.
The foundation, which has no Web site and an unlisted phone number, provides money to causes close to Mr. Harrison's heart: the arts, education, and people with special needs.
Rene van Haarlem, editor of Beatles Unlimited, a Netherlands-based fan magazine that's been around for 40 years, said that Mr. Harrison was particularly generous to the Hare Krishna religious group, to whom he donated a mansion in the English countryside, among other things.
He also supported causes around his home in Henley-on-Thames, west of London, including the local independent cinema.
Mr. van Haarlem noted that Mr. Harrison also was active in the movie business, through the firm Hand Made Films.
It scored an early hit with Monty Python's Life of Brian, but later suffered financial reverses on other projects.
Disclosure of the financial details of Mr. Harrison's will came as family and friends, including former Beatles Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, gathered at Royal Albert Hall for a memorial concert in his honour.
The Concert for George was kicked off by Eric Clapton, who appeared on the stage under a huge photo of Mr. Harrison.
"We are here to celebrate the life and music of George Harrison," he told the audience of 5,000. "It's been a very spiritual and soulful experience so I hope it comes out as good as it sounded when we rehearsed."
"It's a reflection and a celebration," Mr. Starr said. "My dear friend George died on that day. And it's a positive groove -- Olivia wanted to put it together and we all said, 'Yeah.' "
Other performers included Jeff Lynne, Jools Holland, Tom Petty and stars of Monty Python's Flying Circus. Ravi Shankar, the Indian sitar player whose music so influenced Mr. Harrison, composed the first part of the concert.
The star-studded crowd included Sir Bob Geldof, Annie Lennox and Helena Bonham Carter.
Tickets for the show, at £150 ($350) each, sold out within an hour of being put on sale and were being resold by scalpers for as much as £700 ($1,600). Hundreds of fans gathered outside the hall to gape at the scene and in the vain hope of finding a way to get in.
Ms. Harrison said she hoped that the scalpers would donate their profits to charity. Proceeds from the concert will go to the Material World Foundation.
In a U.S. television interview on Tuesday, Ms. Harrison said that her husband had accepted his cancer. "He gave his life to God a long time ago. He wasn't trying to hang on to anything."
She said her husband had wanted to reach "a higher kind of consciousness, a higher life."
"George dedicated a lot of his life to obtain a good ending, and I don't have any doubt that he was successful." Taxman
The George Harrison song, which was recorded by the Beatles in 1966:
Let me tell you how it will be There's one for you, 19 for me 'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah, I'm the taxman
Should 5 per cent appear too small Be thankful I don't take it all 'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah, I'm the taxman
If you drive a car, I'll tax the street If you try to sit, I'll tax your seat If you get too cold, I'll tax the heat If you take a walk, I'll tax your feet
Taxman! 'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah, I'm the taxman
Don't ask me what I want it for (aah Mr. Wilson) If you don't want to pay some more (aah Mr. Heath) 'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah, I'm the taxman
Now my advice for those who die Declare the pennies on your eyes 'Cause I'm the taxman, yeah, I'm the taxman
And you're working for no one but me Taxman! The Fab Fortune Ringo Starr: $166-million George Harrison: $231-million at the time of his death last year; his estate earned about $16-million since then from song and film royalties. John Lennon: $625-million at the time of his death in 1980, but his estate still earns about $30-million a year from song and art royalties. Paul McCartney: $2.4-billion

Thank you, Aries. That was really sweet of you. I saw a couple of short blurbs elsewhere, but this one was much better. Shoot, $1,600 and plane fare will get you into a mighty fine concert. I got to see Paul in the seventies, with Wings. I was too young to drive, so my sister and her boyfriend drove me to the camp-out line for buying tickets and watched over my silly a$s so I could get tickets for myself and a friend. I think that one sold out in two hours, but we made it in. It was a good concert. Never got to see any of the others live. Love, Maria

Well, I'll be a phony bologna . Been a while since I heard this but I can't remember when. Sabra Petals by Courtney Love She is the angel on top of the tree Sugar-heart here she comes She's going to fall on me Innocence was a fire We told the truth I miss the sweet boys In the summer of their youth Tear the petals off of you Make you tell the truth Tear the petals off of you It will make you so...so cynical The fire burns the flesh Destroyed what's best and made us old She is the grace of this world She's too pure For the likes of this world This world is a whore Tear the petals off of you Make you tell the truth Tear the petals off of you Oh, it's all mine and Hey, it's all mine and Hell, it's all mine I never knew what I could be All the lilies bloomed and blossomed Wilted and they're shivering I can't stop their withering Oh, this world is a war Tear the petals off of you Make you tell the truth Tear the petals off of you

You know what, Sabra? You got mad at me because, in the midst of my own life I failed to mind-read that I was supposed to ask you why your feet hurt on the job. I wrote back to please go ahead and tell me, but not to punish me for failing to have known that I was supposed to ask. Immediately afterwards, to my great surprise, you began following me around insulting me, with very personal nasty insults, to which I have not responded. However, I have spoken with you when you have paused in your thrusting of daggers into me.
I did not do anything to deserve this abuse. You used to follow me around lavishing praise on me and promising I would "always" be a queen to you. Then the slightest mis-step in my kindness towards you brings on all this nasty, ridiculous, personal, private, horrible revenge from you.
And you carry it into threads about prayer and meditation and love and peace. You are in the wrong, Sabra. And you need to apologize. And you have no idea how real friends treat each other. You are hideous to your friends if they don't meet your specs.
Maria

Should I post some things you sent me privately like you're doing to me? Or start following you around calling you names like you're doing to me? Wouldn't that be just fun? Grow up.

Thanks Cristina! This is one of my favorite songs in the world, and has been for years. It's the second version I know, listed as Indigo Girls but first done by the Youngbloods around 1970 I think. But the first version you listed may be even more profound! I can just hear it ringing in my ears. Love, Greg

Hi Greg, It's one of my favorite too. When I was looking for the lyrics, Indigo Girls did not ring a bell, but now you mentioned Youngbloods, I remembered. I knew it was in the 70s but couldn't remember the artist's name. Yes, I agree with you, the first one is quite profound.

Within You Without You ../Within You Without You.mp3
by George Harrison
Recorded: March 15, 1967 at Abbey Road, London, England
We were talking
about the space between us all
and people who hide themselves
behind a wall of illusion
never glimpse the truth
then it's far too late
when they pass away
We were talking
about the love we all could share
When we find it
to try our best to hold it there
with our love, with our love
we could save the world
if they only knew
Try to realize it's all within yourself
no one else can make you change
And to see you're really only very small
and life flows on within you and without you
We were talking
about the love that's gone so cold
and the people who gain the world
and lose their soul
They don't know, they can't see
Are you one of them
When you've seen beyond yourself
then you may find
peace of mind is waiting there
And the time will come
when you see we're all one
and life flows on within you and without you
In reply to:
Klaus Voorman had a harmonium in his house, which I hadn't played before. I was doodling on it, just playing to amuse myself, when "Within You" started to come. The tune came first, then I got the first sentence. It came out of what we'd been discussing that evening.

Here's to Klaus Voorman's harmonium.
...And another word or two from George...
"The problem with talking is, you know, like, the more you say the more you bury yourself. It's very difficult to express what you feel in your heart. In a song, though, because you have the addition of the music and the value of sound, it touches places that other things don't touch, and so it can stir you from a much deeper, subtle level. I try to do my music about what my experiences are." -- George Harrison

There is something lurking out there something, a feeling in the air Bread of shame, source of pain Crums scattered in our brain
There is something calling out there something, a tingle in the air An echo reaching from afar fading like a fallen star
There is something alive out there something, struggling in the air Essence of joy, for all to have Only found in the heart
There is something waiting out there something, for us to share A glimps of a blessed reality Equality, love eternally
There is something real out there Tapping gently for us to care Open your eyes, your heart, your soul And Peace will reveal itself for all

It is ...
Like a kitten racing softly, swiftly,
almost unheard,
toward the loved one --
the one who is always on the way somewhere.
And twining round about, like a scrap of black velvet
blown by the wind around your feet,
Tiny furry head against one pale shin,
ribbon tail still tickling the other ankle.
Gathering all her energy now,
she presses every ounce of her tiny self
against the legs of the one,
Who scoops her up
And holds her.
