[/I WAS confining the post to one subject, jwhop. You brought up hypocrisy and I was replying to you concerning that. I was pointing out the hypocrises in government. I was also replying to what you said about the people here at the site not speaking out against Clinton bombing Iraq the way we are speaking out against Bush doing the same thing.

Yes, I was saying that the British imprisioned and tortured members of the IRA in the past. That is documented fact. It is documented fact that Margaret Thatcher allowed freedom fighters to starve to death in a British prison when they went on a hunger strike to protest the British control in Northern Ireland. Britain would not even allow the Catholics to march or demonstrate against their oppression. Does Bloody Sunday ring a bell with you? Of course, there has since been a peace agreement signed between Britain and the freedom fighters in Northern Ireland. After over 30 years of fighting. I believe that was signed in 1998. There are still outbreaks of violence though. Prime Minister Tony Blair said that Northern Ireland will remain a part of Britain as long as the majority of citizens want it that way. Of course the majority of citizens are Protestants and there has always been a class distinction and discrimination against the Catholics. Those are truths recorded in history.

It is true that Reagan told the air line pilots that they would lose their jobs if they went on strike. He then proceeded to allow "scabs" to take their place. He set a precedent that corporations followed in order to break the unions. Why should workers not have a union to protect them from working in unsafe factories? There have been two major fires and loss of life in factories in the south where there is no union. One of those was just recently. Why should workers not have a union to help them obtain fair wages and benefits? The corporations would not be making their money if not from the sweat of it's workers. Why shouldn't unions use funds to back candidates that best serve the interest of the unions and the workers? Are you saying it is okay for the corporations to fund candidates that best suit their interests, but the unions shouldn't do that same thing? Sorry, but that sounds like hypocrisy to me, jwhop.

Love, Connie
