The lights in the Windows, the stars on the Trees, the seasonal aisles filled with disEase.

What is this Madness that starts all too soon?
Was Christ born on Christmas or maybe in June?

Making Believe seems to have a dual nature during this Holy Day Season...with Children on their best behavior and Adults on their worst...the days are filled with Marketing Mayhem and Early Bird Sales, creating a BElief from disillusion that our Lives would be more meaningful with more Things to have and hold....creating a Sharper Image of our Selves, through Mass Media and Mesmerization...cataloging our Selves into a Cyber Shopping Frenzy. We are lost in ReTale. A Story repeated earlier every year it seems.


Meanwhile, back in the DreamWorld of Childhood...kids everywhere inhale every ounce of Seasonal Stimuli, believing every Word told to them, in hopes of attaining their Wish List, following their role models on line to the register. imPatiently awaiting the day, when Santa was born and Jesus brings them Gifts.
Ooops. Reverse that.

I am not sure when making BElieve went from pondering and preTending to Advertising and Mass marketing...but I do know in the Grand Scheme of Things, we are only kidding our Selves....And ours Elves are much smarter than that...watching us with a discerning I...hoping One day, we will allow the Light to come forth and shine soully on the Reason for the Season.

As for my fellow magical beings here in the North Country, I was always puzzled why the jolly old elf with the big curly beard sparkling of snowflakes would be known as Santa, which any old elf could tell you is the female rendering of Saint. Men go by San, as in San Miguel beer, San-serif fonts and like that. Santa goes with Monica and Fe and warm environs poles a part from peppermint sticks and bowls full of jelly.

There they are again, rushing about......some huffing....some grumbling to one another......some with the Evil Eye boring into my skin.....as if that will get me to move faster ....

some compassionate.....apologetic even for their presence adding to my stress....."Dear, when you get a chance, I'd like to look.....no rush"
......as the puffed up over-cosmeticized, fur-wearing.....diamond-drooling lady to their right (whose turn is after theirs, but has convinced herself that the World revolves around her) huffs obnoxiously "EXCUSE ME! I've been waiting! Why don't you call for more help??!!"..... As if we had any to begin with, that they wouldn't already be there.

No need for thought or meaning into a gift.....it's a given....in our materialistic world, gold and gems will always placate....always make 'em gush.

Throngs of shoppers trying to beat the clock.....to make their OWN little circle have the most Perfect Christmas ever....just the right amount of poinsettas and holiday china....

Can Christmas truly exist in an Obsessive Compulsive World?

hiya all,

i worked retail one christmas season and *whoa* is an understatement for the mania

this year i didn't feel like buying anything for anyone. thought about doing a portrait painting, but am unsure about the relationship to the person the gift is meant for.

last night, i chose to write poems on fancy stationary i have, fold them in half, and glue dried red rose petals on the front and back sides sprinkled with faux gold dust.

wrap them up in some tissue and tie with a rose and nice ribbon or raffia.

*shrugs*

hope folks like them.
