Okay Evy....

My mom was descended from the English and my father was full blood Native American Indian. So actually, that makes me half...and I do consider myself BOTH! (I feel such strong ties to England)

Here are some photos of both Dad and Mom....

MY DAD (I love this picture)...He passed in 1995...at age 80..

My Mom about five years ago...she passed last November at age 85

Here they are together

I miss them both so very much...but I'm thankful that I had them both, for as long as I did..*sigh*

When I first came to this site in '99, I sent these photos to Greg, via old fashioned "snail mail," and he posted them for me and then mailed them back..(he's such a dear)...

....so...there are knowflakes here, who have seen them before...(I've made additional posts since then too, ..after I got a scanner)....

I realize this is a WORDS AND NUMBERS FORUM...so to keep it "legal" I'm going to find some old poems my mom wrote and post them...

LOve,
Rainbow

TRAIL OF TEARS

The soft sound of the rustling wind
In the dead of night
Broke the rhythm of their steps
And on until the light
With heads held high and feathers bright
Across their shoulders hung
The long, long march of many moons
For them had just begun

Across the streams and mountains high
Through the glades and dell
Over meadows wild and wide
Now only time would tell
Cold north winds blew frigid air
Bringing with it snow
Not many of them would survive
As onward they would go

Cold and hunger took its toll
Of the helpless and the weak
The children small, the old and sick
Marched on with frozen feet
They heard the weakened babies cry
From the dusk until the dawn
As the women huddled close to them
To keep their babies warm

Still the march went on and on
Many dropped to earth
Never more to rise again
In their land of birth
Time would heal, some would survive
To come back from defeat
We still have our honor
This we'll always keep

A nation born of courage strong
Is etched in memory
You'll never break our spirit
Or take our dignity

By Dorothy Medacco

Evy, if you're not familiar with the history here, the trail of tears was a rather shameful time in our history when many Native Americans were moved from their homeland across the Mississippi to new territory (for them)...

They wern't ASKED to leave....they were MADE to leave...

Moonflower/Connie wrote a very informative article about it and you'll find it in one of the past newsletters...Connie is descended from the Cherokees...who made the dreadful trail of tears west...

Love,
Rainbow

Hi Rainbow!
I've only seen this today- haven't been on the computer for a while. Your father looks great with his head dress! They seem a lovely couple..... I'm sure they are happy wherever they are... and the poem is beautiful!
