HI everyone!
I have started to question myself whether or not I am using the right house system.... I can't make my mind up, if I should use Placidus, Equal, Koch or what. I've always used Placidus, just because it is what I'm used to but don't know enough or haven't had enough experience with the others to know if something else would work better. What are you lot using out there, and what works best for you? Any advice? I'd appreciate some clarity on this one, Thanks!

Hi evy,

People seem to use what system resonates the best for them. I myself use Koch, but to answer your question on the Evolutionary Astrology thread as to what system to use when figuring out what house your Pluto is in... Jeffery Green uses Porphyry as did Greg when testing out Jeff's theories.

Hi Evy

I use koch as my first choice for natal and transits. I've tried a lot of them and this is the one I found right with most people I observe.

I sometimes will look at placidus but it is my second choice.

I know Linda used the equal house which is easier if you are calculating by hand. I wonder if she still would given that computers do the leg work. I would be inclined to use Equal if it was calculated from the Zeneth rather than the Asc.

I've tried the whole sign, which is great if you are born early in a sign but if your Asc is mid to late sign it doesn't resonate.

For horary charts I still to the traditional that William Lilly used in 1600's Regiomontanus. It seems to work ok but I wouldn't use it for natal, synistries or composites.

I've not really worked that much with some of the less used house systems.

hope this helps

Love

Lis

Thank you Kel and Lis!
I'll try Koch and see how that works for me.

Hi Evy ,

I must say that I have had the same question a couple of years ago. Until today it sometimes leaves me a bit puzzled . The reason is the following: in the unequal house most of my planets fall in the 10th house - but in the equal house they fall in the 9th - which makes a big difference! Do you have the same 'problem'(let's wish there were only problems like this...!) ?

Thanks,
Pastlives .

You're welcome evy

Pastlives,
Mine is one of those charts as well (being that I have a late degree Asc as Lis mentiones). I used to use placidus when I first started because that is what astro.com uses and gives you when you look up your chart. The only difference between it and Koch is that my Mars switches houses. What I feel is characteristics of both the 4th and 5th house descriptions for that planet. As for equal it significantly changes the houses and they don't resonate very well for me there.

That's my 2 cents worth.

Hi Pastlives, Kel
in my chart almost everything except the black moon and mars stays the same whether I use Placidus, equal or Koch. It's in my partners chart that they all change. In placidus, he has a stellium of many major planets in the fourth extending to the fifth. And in Koch most of those planets are in the fourth. Reading both interpretations on the canopus program placidus seems to fit him better. There's a section on houses in the canopus help manual which describes the differences between the house systems, and they recommend to use campanus. Now, if I use- is it Prophyre? (may have got the name of it wrong there) Tims pluto is in the 5th and not 4th. Which I think would fit him better.

Hi Evy et al,

I guess it all boils down to trial and error and then personal choice.

I watched the movements of Mars in comparision to ome fo my bosses charts. It toured the 5th for the longet time a couple of years back, there was a rex, but to the day of the koch you could see it hit the 6th, he suddenly started to apply himself to work.

Maybe you can watch which house Mars is in for Tim and see when it chages into another house to see if it works or not?
