Just re-posting this on the Robert Brewer pic? thread... seems to fit nicely here too.

Read a couple books on soul mates and both books basically said the same thing regarding SOUL MATES & TWIN SOULS.

Here's the "meat & potatoes" from Soul Mates: Understanding Relationships Across Time By Richard Webster.

Quote:

SOUL MATES:

-->A soul mate relationship is a strong bond between two people that has existed over many incarnations, where each partner helps the other to learn the lessons that he or she needs to learn in this incarnation.
A soul mate relationship…
--is not restricted to heterosexual relationships
--is not necessarily a love relationship either
--does not necessarily last for a whole lifetime

-->Many people feel there is only one potential soul mate for them in the whole world. Fortunately, this is not the case. It would be terrible if you lived in Iowa, but your one and only soul mate lived in Finland. It is likely that you will find a soul mate in the town or city that you already live in.
Ancient myths can teach us valuable truths that we would not understand in any other way. Throughout the East, where reincarnation is considered a basic fact of life, there are ancient writings telling us the soul originally consisted of both male and female principles. The divine energy is spread throughout the universe by a process of division. Groups of cells gather in different places, all waiting to be transformed into souls. The smaller the group the closer the association that these cells have with each other. Later on, in human form, these souls instantly recognize each other again whenever they happen to meet. The other cells in that group you belonged to are all your soul mates. There is an immediate attraction and recognition at a soul level whenever two soul mates meet.

-->…soul mates love at a deep soul level that far transcends the love between two individuals who are not soul mates…

-->This even applies in nonromantic soul mate relationships. Soul mates are brought together to work on a specific task. A love relationship is what comes to most people’s minds when they think of soul mates, but the variety of possible tasks is limitless. It might be to pay off a karmic debt or to work on a challenging project that both people consider worthwhile. The relationship may only last for the length of time necessary to complete the task, but the strong love bond will be apparent to others, even if it is not recognized by the people concerned.

-->If we accept the definition of soul mates as being a strong bond between two people that has existed through amny incarnations, we also need to accept the idea of reincarnation. Reincarnation is the doctorine that says we evolve spiritually by living as many lifetimes as is necessary to achieve perfection. In other words, although our physical body and personality die, our soul is immortal.

-->If we have already experienced countless previous lives, why can we not remember them?
Imagine the complications that would be created if we were trying to live one life, while full of memories of another. Even in our current lives we usually have no memory of learning essential skills, such as walking or talking. It appears also that oxytocin, a hormone produced by the mother’s posterior pituitary gland, bathes the unborn child in the latter stages of pregnancy. Oxytocin causes memory loss in laboratory animals, and might explain why we can not remember our past lives.
Consequently it is unusual for soul mates to recall any of the intimate details of their previous lifetimes together. This is not surprising, as their current personalities have no conscious memories of their past lives. It is the soul that remembers. However, their hearts open wide when they first meet in this lifetime and an immediate attraction is felt. Each incarnation strengthens and deepens the relationship, until finally they reach a perfect state of love.

-->Of course, in this lifetime, we are not just paying off karmic debts. Through the experiences of our lives, and our reactions to them, we also pick up karmic debts that will have to be paid back later, either in this lifetime or in a future life. We will also gain karmic credit for our good deeds.
It is not what happens to us that is important, it is how we react to them. If we respond to a negative situation in a positive way, we are effectively creating good karma, rather than bad. It means we have learned our lesson and can move on. Conversely, if we react to the situation in a negative way, by becoming angry, stressed out, bitter, jealous, and full of desires for revenge it shows that we have not learned the lesson. As a result, at some stage, we will be presented with a similar situation again. This will continue to happen until we finally learn the lesson.
I have found many people who have experienced virtually identical situations in several previous lifetimes. Obviously, the lesson was being repeated over and over again until, finally, the soul learned it and was able to move on.

[Aside to reader: Also makes a good holding pattern Evaluate your Karma regularly and implement it wisely...did anyone catch Drew Barrymore talking about Karma on Jay Leno the other night? ]

Twin Souls:

As well as your soul mates, there is one twin soul searching for you. This twin soul is your other half, dating from when we were all whole. It is most unlikely that you will meet your twin soul in this incarnation. It appears that your twin soul comes into your life when you are both experiencing your final life on this earth plane. A twin soul relationship is an unbelievable perfect relationship on every level.

You and your twin soul will connect with each other on the physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and soul levels. Most people connect with their partners on one level, and some have no connection at any level. Good relationships are forged if the partners meet on two levels. Imagine what it must be like to be connected with your partner on all five levels.

To be totally in tune with someone at every level is a joy that all of us will experience on day, even though that day might be many incarnations away. In the meantime, though, we can enjoy a rewarding, joyous, fulfilling relationship with one of our soul mates.

Can't remember the source for this...Really!?

Quote:

The River of Forgetfulness:

In Classical Greek, Lethe literally means "forgetfulness" or "concealment". The Greek word for "truth" is a-lethe-ia, meaning "un-forgetfulness" or "un-concealment".

In Greek mythology, Lethe is one of the several rivers of Hades (the god of the underworld in ancient mythology; brother of Zeus and husband of Persephone). Drinking from the river Lethe ("forgetfulness" or "oblivion") caused complete forgetfulness. Some ancient Greeks believed that souls were made to drink from the river before being reincarnated, so they would not remember their past lives.

Some private mystery religions taught the existence of another river, the Mnemosyne (the Titaness who was goddess of memory; mother of the Muses); those who drank from the Mnemosyne would remember everything and attain omniscience. Initiates were taught that they would receive a choice of rivers to drink from after death, and to drink from Mnemosyne instead of Lethe. These two rivers are attested in several verse inscriptions on gold plates dating to the 4th century BC and onward, found at Thurii in Southern Italy and elsewhere throughout the Greek world.

"When the Jester sang for the King and Queen
In a coat he borrowed from James Dean
And a voice, well, that came from you and me

Oh, and while the King was looking down
The Jester stole his thorny crown,"

Quote:

SONG FOR BOB DYLAN by David Bowie

Oh, hear this Robert Zimmerman
I wrote a song for you
About a strange young man
called Dylan
With a voice like sand and glue
His words of truthful vengeance
They could pin us to the floor
Brought a few more people on
And put the fear in a whole lot more

Ah, Here she comes
Here she comes
Here she comes again
The same old painted lady
From the brow of a superbrain
She'll scratch this world to pieces
As she comes on like a friend
But a couple of songs
From your old scrapbook
Could send her home again

You gave your heart to every bedsit room
At least a picture on my wall
And you sat behind a million pair of eyes
And told them how they saw
Then we lost your train of thought
The paintings are all your own
While troubles are rising
We'd rather be scared
Together than alone

Ah, Here she comes...[etc.]

Now hear this Robert Zimmerman
Though I don't suppose we'll meet
Ask your good friend Dylan
If he'd gaze a while
down the old street
Tell him we've lost his poems
So they're writing on the walls
Give us back our unity
Give us back our family
You're every nation's refugee
Don't leave us with their sanity

Ah, Here she comes....[etc.]

SIMPLE TWIST OF FATE -- by BOB Dylan

They sat together in the park
As the evening sky grew dark,
She looked at him and he felt a spark tingle to his bones.
'Twas then he felt alone and wished that he'd gone straight
And watched out for a simple twist of fate.

They walked along by the old canal
A little confused, I remember well
And stopped into a strange hotel with a neon burnin' bright.
He felt the heat of the night hit him like a freight train

Moving with a simple twist of fate.

A saxophone someplace far off played
As she was walkin' by the arcade.
As the light bust through a beat-up shade where he was wakin' up,
She dropped a coin into the cup of a blind man at the gate
And forgot about a simple twist of fate.

He woke up, the room was bare
He didn't see her anywhere.
He told himself he didn't care, pushed the window open wide,
Felt an emptiness inside to which he just could not relate
Brought on by a simple twist of fate.

He hears the ticking of the clocks
And walks along with a parrot that talks,
Hunts her down by the waterfront docks where the sailers all come in.
Maybe she'll pick him out again, how long must he wait
Once more for a simple twist of fate.

People tell me it's a sin
To know and feel too much within.
I still believe she was my Twin, but I lost the ring.
She was born in Spring, but I was born too late
Blame it on a simple twist of fate.

(cONtinued ON from The 8th Degree GEMINI...

(First Image, Outer Symbol)

...What higher Wisdom created these Lilies of the field of the field? Gemini subjects have to develop the notion that they possess an inner higher Wisdom which can speak to them. Their gain in life is great, as they are not only twins in the image, but also a tree in full foliage. They are protected by, and protect, the higher knowledge in life. They are True (Aq.) to their teachers and protectors. Their own inner security may spread over their friends and surroundings. They radiate an inner peace and spread happiness. One might speak of the finding of the Twin-Soul, but these people may be the two in one[i/]. The outer search for the twin is the projection of the inner life into another person, which is the fatal split in Gemini. They have to learn to find it all within themselves,as we see it developing in the other degree-images of Gemini.

The Twin-Lilies are the symbol of Wisdom. The Lily has a deep esoteric meaning of wich the fleur-de-lis, in heraldry and art forms, is an historic reflection. Its botany is also meaningful. The Hebrew word for lily is shoshannah, which has the words Whiteness and Trumpet in it.

Spoken and written words come under Gemini and are mediators for the communication between the Creator and the horizontal world. The
Yellow (Le.) of the lilies shows firthermore that those with this degree prominant may flower into creative speaking and writing. An example of them may be shown in the greatest of all love-songs about Twins, which feed amongst the lilies, written by the wise man King Soloman.

Second Image, Inner Symbol

A Glass-Bottomed Boat Drifts Over UnderSea Wonders

Interpretation
In the first image we do not notice the other two signs of the mutable cross Virgo-Pisces squaring Gemini. There was no critical analysis(Vi.) in this togetherness of the Twins, nor the loneliness of Pisces.

Here in the second image the difficulty for Gemini is brought to a higher level in the clear water of Pisces, and the technical advancement(Vi.) of ob
serving the underwater vegetation from a glass-bottomed boat. Thus there is the realisation of the inner observation of miracles-wonders of nature. When mysticism(Pi.) and humble service (Vi.) are brought into the lives of these people, there comes to them the inner consciousness that they are continuously in touch with their deeper sources, which are the origins of life itself. This brings a tremendously refined sensitivity to collective images emerging from their inner (un)consciousness. When their observation is turned within, they can discover forms which are not of this earth. Through their inner hands(Ge.) they have to bring these wonders up, as if from another world, and make them visible for others in words or pictures. It is still the mirror or The Looking Glass through which they see, but they prepare themselves, and others, to meet The Creator face to face INSIDE.
They may bring up the lilies from the bottom of the sea of the collective unconsciousness. Then they express Gemini at its highest, as mediators, Christ-messengers.

By Helen&Willem Koppejan from Their Triology Of Books,This 1Beeing The Mutable Signs.

Biblical Parallels

Lilies are engraved on the top of the pillars of Soloman`s temple. The Song Of Solomon mentions the Lilies several times.See 2:1-2; 2:16;4:5;5:136:2-3 and 7:2.
The most striking ones for this 1st Gemini are:

"Thy two breasts are like two young roes that are twins, which feedeth among the lilies".Song 4:5.

I am my beloved`s, and my beloved is mine:he feedeth among the lilies." Song 6:3

The mystic wonders of Solomon`s Song may be interpretated on many levels, literal, symbolic and Kabbalistic. See the Literature.

THE LOOKING GLASS
"Before the throne there is a Sea of glass like unto Crystal".(Revelation of wonders beyond our physical eyes) Rev.4:6.

Note
In Camogli in Italy, at the bottom of the clear green sea there is a white statue of Christ, called The Christ Of The Depth , which has been placed there by Guido Galetto, an Italian sculpture.

Dylan -- Old Welsh. "From the Sea." Dylan was the Welsh god of the sea. Dylan Thomas was a famous Welsh poet who lived in the first half of the 20th century.

A poem from Linda Goodman
to David Bowie & Bob Dylan

Quote:

LOVE SIGNS
SCORPIO Woman - SCORPIO Man Section

(pg. 720 softcover)

the odd-shaped things I save
that smell, and feel of us...

a crumpled book of matches from the pizza place
some wilted flowers
picked outside the door

you couldn't enter

a bleached and crooked twig
washed ashore at that spot on the sand
where you first said you were lonely

and suprised me into tears

a hotel room key
stuffed inside an airline ticket envelope

......I guess you saved the bird verse
and the memory of my last smile...

they take so little room in your scrapbook*

Venus Trines at Midnight, by Linda Goodman

And every one of them words rang true
And glowed like burnin' coal
Pourin' off of every page
Like it was written in my soul from me to you,
Tangled up in blue.

CD & thank you!

Here's another Hotel that very accurately describes LG's Shabby Hotel... The Grateful Dead FROM THE MARS HOTEL.

The first song on side 2 FROM THE MARS HOTEL is Scarlet Begonias.

"Scarlet Begonias"
words by Robert Hunter; music by Jerry Garcia
("Scarlet Begonias" composed and written by Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter. Ice Nine Publishing Co., Inc. (ASAP))

As I was walkin' round Grosvenor Square <---(how can you walk round a square ?)
Not a chill to the winter
but a nip to the air
From the other direction
she was calling my eye
It could be an illusion
but I might as well try
Might as well try.

She had rings on her fingers and
bells on her shoes,
And I knew without askin' she was
into the blues
Scarlet begonias
tucked into her curls
I knew right away
she was not like other girls--
other girls

In the thick of the evening
when the dealing got rough
She was too pat to open and
too cool to bluff
As I picked up my matches and
was closing the door
I had one of those flashes:
I'd been there before--
been there before.

[Bridge]
I ain't often right
but I've never been wrong
It seldom turns out the way
it does in the song

Once in a while
you get shown the Light
in the strangest of places
if you look at it right
<---

Well there ain't nothin' wrong
with the way she moves
Or scarlet begonias or a
touch of the blues
And there's nothing wrong with
the love that's in her eye
I had to learn the hard way
to let her pass by--
let her pass by

The wind in the willows played Tea for Two
The sky was yellow and the Sun was blue
Strangers stopped strangers
just to shake their hand
Everybody's playing
in the Heart of Gold Band
Heart of Gold Band

Musical details:

* Key: E
* Time signature: 4/4
* Chords used: E, B, A, F#
* Songbook availability:
o Grateful Dead, vol. II
o Anthology

"Scarlet Begonias" debuted on March 23, 1974, at the Cow Palace in Daly City, California. The show also included the first "Cassidy," as well as the sound test for the famous "wall of sound" system. It appeared in the first set, between "Black Throated Wind" and "Beat It On Down the Line."

Two days later, the group began recording From the Mars Hotel, on which the song appears. (DeadBase)

Recorded on

* From the Mars Hotel
* Dick's Picks, v. 6

Robert Hunter recorded the song on his Box of Rain album. (1991)

Keith and Donna Godchaux covered the tune on The Ghosts Playing in the Heart of Gold Band. (1984)

Blair Jackson, in Grateful Dead: the Music Never Stopped, says this about the song: "`Scarlet Begonias" remains one of Hunter and Garcia's very best songs, with its intricate percolating rhythm...a bright, tuneful melody, and dreamy lyrics: `The wind in the willows played "Tea for Two'/The sky was yellow and the sun was blue,' the final verse begins, continuing with a wonderfully worded sentiment that describes the bond between Deadheads and the band--`Strangers stoppin' strangers/just to shake their hand/Everybody's playing in the heart of gold band.' If there is one sentiment that is repeated over and over again by both Deadheads and the band, it is that they feel they are all actually part of the same animal, in the same sense that a Grateful Dead show is a giant gestalt in which the band and the audience support each other. Everyone is in the band in that respect." (p. 155)

LOve&LIght,
Stephanie

PS. Thanks again to David in the Vault...you're a St.

Grateful Dead Time Capsule

12/?/65 "Grateful Dead" founded in San Francisco

Formerly the Warlocks, Phil saw an album by another band of the same name. Many other names were considered, including Emergency Crew, Mythical Ethical Icicle Tricycle, and Nonreality Sandwich. Smoking DMT one day at Phil's place, they decided to try Valentinian chance - using a randomly selected passage from a book.

Jerry recalled: "One day we were over at Phil's house...He had a big dictionary. I opened it and there was 'Grateful Dead', those words juxtaposed. It was one of those moments, you know, like everything else went blank, diffuse, just sort of oozed away, and there was GRATEFUL DEAD in big, black letters edged all around in gold, man, blasting out at me, such a stunning combination. So I said, 'How about Grateful Dead?' And that was it." The phrase has been attributed to several sources, with much confusion .

Funk & Wagnalls New Practical Standard Dictionary of the English Language:
GRATEFUL DEAD: The motif of a cycle of folk tales which begin with the hero's coming upon a group of people ill-treating or refusing to bury the corpse of a man who had died without paying his debts. He gives his last penny, either to pay the man's debts or to give him a decent burial. Within a few hours he meets with a travelling companion who aids him in some impossible task, gets him a fortune, saves his life, etc. The story ends with the companion's disclosing himself as the man whose corpse the other had befriended.

They later came across this supporting text on the burial of Egyptian pharaohs in the Egyptian Book of the Dead:
"We now return our souls to the creator, as we stand on the edge of eternal darkness. Let our chant fill the void in order that others may know. In the land of the night the ship of the sun is drawn by the grateful dead."

Original Grateful Dead:

Jerry Garcia, 23 - guitar, vocals
Bob Weir, 18 - guitar, vocals
Phil Lesh, 25 - bass, vocals
Ron "Pigpen" McKernan, 20 - keyboards, harmonica, vocals
Bill Kreutzmann, 19 - drums

THE MOTELS

Only The Lonely

We walked the loneliest mile
We smiled without any style
We kiss altogether wrong
No intention

We lied about each others drinks
We lived without each other thinkin'
What anyone would do
Without me and you

Chorus:
It's like I told you
Only the lonely can play

So hold on here we go
Hold on to nothin' we know
I feel so lonely way up here

We mention the time we were together
So long ago, well I don't remember
All I know is that it makes me feel good now

Repeat chorus

*********************

Remember The Nights

Fragrance of that long lost evening
Tender moves that keep repeating
Soft night's melody that I can't forget
Younger boy and helpless girl
Passion of the other world
Strange old place from a
Nursery rhyme that I can't forget
I can't go back,but I can't stay
Help me
Remember the nights with you

Street corner stands in shade
Lanterns swing in the heat of day
Old lady sings the song that I can't forget

Little girl that asked you who
Collects the flowers they give to you
Her eyes, her dress, the sky
The blue that you can't forget
I can't go back, but I can't stay
Help me
Remember the nights with you
(repeat)

Long ago and far away
Memory like a dream
I stay in the other place
The other time that I can't forget
I can't go back, but I can't stay
Help me
Remember the nights
Remember the nights
Remember the nights with you

****************************

Total Control

Looking counter clockwise
Knowing what could happen
Any moment maybe you maybe even you

Steadfast collapse
Always certain any moment
Maybe you maybe you
Maybe even you
Recline complete dream too sweet
I can't do it not with you
Not even with you
Maybe never with you

And I'd sell my soul for
Total control

Yeah I'd sell my soul for
Total control

Street wet tonight, lovers touch
It's pure delight
Always certain any moment
Maybe even you
Stay in bed stained sheets
My head hurts I repeat
Maybe you maybe you maybe even you

And I'd sell my soul for
Total control
Yeah I'd sell my soul for
Total control
Ooh I'd sell my soul for
Total control over you
Over you
Total control over you
