Well, I was planning to move the sites over gradually to a new host over the course of this month so that we wouldn't have to go through this half-constructed stage together. But then our server (yes, that gem our old hosts moved us to in January) crashed again this past weekend, so we're moving now. Happy Vernal Equinox, happy new spring beginnings, even if they come in an unexpected way and make us feel unprepared.
So, all our stuff IS coming in the moving truck, but in the meantime, here's a little board to play around on and continue our discussions. YOU'LL NEED TO REGISTER AGAIN TO POST. It's probably best to register with your same data as on the regular boards, because we may be able to merge this and those ... but on the other hand, if you're really tired of your old handle, you can register under a new name.
These new hosts have got to be better than the old ones. They were a major pain.
Love, Ruh-roh, no heart icon? We'll have to remedy that eventually!
Love, Maria

Hi Suchi and Rainbow, I see these boards don't have a place for Ginny to attach her graphics. :? Bummer. I've dispatched a courier to abduct Proxymoon to help with the databases. I need a good list of Unix commands for Putty. And this is how much I like ServePath of San Francisco. How are you ladies doing tonight? Maria

Hell-o girls. So you are trying to shuffle DB's into a cracker box? Details, I need details. You have mail. Did you know this is the same BBS as www.Fedoraforum.org uses? 8) So, should I make coffee? Darwin

Hey, I have a weakness for databases. I was just about to ask you if you needed help but as usual got sidetracked by multitasking. If this is about transferring forum data I think we need to compare table structures. Will send you a PM or email.
I can also provide some help on linux commands, though I think Prox is getting to be the expert on that one.

Ah, it's so nice to have you eggheads here. Yes, plenty o' coffee is a good idea, Proxy. Darwin has mail in return, and Suchi, I'll send you the discussion so far. We have to Putty our way in, and we may have to retrieve the databases in a different form than I have them in now ... in fact I think that's the probability. Heads together. Love

I think Maria has the concept about the DB's being copied and recovered. She needs help with locating the databases on the old server. But only one of us at a time can be using the account. You have logged on on to the system before so you know what putty is returning. Is it a full X11 or just a dumb xterm (and you then use VNC) Can you tel Maria the commands to get to the /mnt folder cd / # <--- you are here when you logon cd /mnt dir # <--- should show folders and files of which one will be olddrive cd /mnt/olddrive dir <--- You are now at root of olddrive cd /mnt/olddrive/<mydblocpath>/<mydblocpath2> dir # <--should show databases files That is my guess. huh? :P I've not had a chance to work via putty, so I'm not sure exactly what you're trying to do there. Copying the database files onto an external device, I assume? Now, shouldn't we be able to take a backup of the existing database onto a disk and restore it temporarily on this new server to start with? Then see how the data needs to be mapped to the new database structure and transfer data. Waiting for the email

Suchi, I sent it to g.mail 20 minutes ago. Will try again with your other address now.
Darwin, why don't you go ahead into the account and try your guess.
Maria

Thanks, T. I love this winky guy. There is a conversion pack from our old boards to these ... so that's a possibility. And you can change all the colors and such of the actual BB to match. For now, I'm just glad I got our frame put on. Now I must work on database transfer. But as I told you, I'm taking Thursday off! Love, Maria
