Cell phones work in Cripple Creek proper, but not out in the sticks surrounding town. Too far from civilization and too close to ore. We're left out of that technology hop. Since I still don't know how to use the satellite TV system remote, it's probably not such a bad thing. But I'd still like to have one of those cute little folding phones.

If someone has a high station in life, they're a muckity-muck when you can't think of what their exact title is but you want to indicate they hold some high-ranking position.

But if they not only hold high position but also have a sort of guru mystique, at least among the specific group of their followers, and some sort of magical charisma, they're a pooh-bah.

Lol, at least that's how I see it. Of course, it's all tongue in cheek. I don't know if this is where pooh-bah originally came from, but where I first heard it was on The Flintstones cartoon -- a cartoon about a stone-age family, but plots like a typical 1960s situation comedy.

Fred and Barney belong to the Water Buffalo Lodge, which is a spoof on Elks Lodges in the U.S., which are somewhat like a Masonic lodge, or maybe they are Masonic? In any case, in country towns (like out here -- we have a Cripple Creek Elks Lodge and a Victor Elks Lodge) they're just clubs of local folks who think one another are solid community folks, and they have their own buildings to meet in that include their own bars to drink in, lol.

Anyway, the top cat in Fred and Barney's Water Buffalo Lodge was called the Grand Pooh-Bah, and the members all had to kowtow before him (on the knees with arms outstretched).

I have to admit I had the thought that you would wonder what was going on, but I was too tired at that point to explain much of anything.

When I married Douglas Barron, a friend of ours said, "I guess this makes you the Baroness." Are you an Archangel by birth or marriage?

I still have some customizing to do in the profile fields, like adding in the default that we don't use the "Display Email Address" option and to use PM instead.
