Let's think of it as a Magical Mystery Tour... Repeating and rephrasing the post about this on the old version of the software... The people who made this discussion forum software have totally rewritten it, so that the upgrade they're urging everyone to adopt is not an actual upgrade on top of what we have. It is, as they say, a fresh install. So I left the "un-updated" forums running there in the ubbthreads directory, where we have been posting, while I freshly installed the new version. Attention, you who write with great consideration -- this new version will not have that bug where the software times you out after an hour! So that's one good thing about it. Another is the kind of nice stuff you can pull right into the main forum page. But in testing thisnew version, I discovered the search engine doesn't work because it's built for a higher version of database software, mySQL, so we have to get the newer version of mySQL. And, surprise of surprises, that also involves a fresh install, not only of the software, but of the operating system and server controls. Soooooo...I'm going to go ahead and have us start posting over here on the new version of the boards now. I'll leave the previous boards running in the interim, so that we can use the search engine there. But I've shut down posting on the old version and left a big note inviting you over here on the new set-up. We can celebrate Easter Sunday and Linda's birthday Monday on this new set-up, and then probably on Tuesday, the server will be offline for the reinstall, and then I'll need to put the site back together on top of the new base. I'll leave notes as I go. Suchi, I'm hoping the upgrade to mySQL 4.1 won't cause any trouble with the SQL queries in Greg's Tarot tool or the co-op or Metamorphosis index. I've heard there is a big syntax change going to 5, but the only thing I know different in the 4.1 from what we have is it takes Boolean parameters in a search. Any problems, though, and you know whom I'll be leaning on. Anyway, giving a "heads up," all around. Should be fun, lol. Maria

Ah! I haven't worked with mySQL in ages, so I didn't know about that. So, long as Greg's queries were basic (as they seemed to be; but I can't be sure about the co-op - that might have needed more complex stuff), I don't think we should have a problem. I don't think they'd mess around with the T-SQL syntax that is common to all database softwares. The problem comes up when we use built-in functions provided by the software that vary from software to software. They might be changing the way those work, perhaps. But, I think so long as you keep an eye on the co-op and look for any weirdness, I expect we should be fine with the rest of the site. Either way, I'm here to help, so holler if you need me

Okey dokey, new operating system (Fedora Core 4), new mySQL, new PHPMyAdmin, new Ensim, and it all seems to be working OK. The only trouble seems to be with some relative links to graphics in some older posts. Those didn't translate in the import, and I suppose I'll have to search them out or they'll drive me bananas. Maria, Thanks for all your hard work - I have done things like this before, and it can be a royal pain at times... Everything that I pm'd you about seems to have been fixed, and I am getting the notices as well. As for the number of posts, not "planned"! I'll let you know when you have to up the limit! And I just found the astrological symbols! Dave

I just added to the calendar the significant events for the rest of the year - retrograde and direct stations of the planets and the two eclipses. If there is anything else that you might want in the calendar (as long as it isn't a ton of work!), let me know!
Love
Dave

Wow! Super cool, Dave. As long as you're asking, I wouldn't mind having the New Moons and Full Moons. I used to get the data from a NASA site and put it in the newsletter calendars at GMT. Maria

Maria,
Uh, that is a lot of work... I will look into it and what I probably will do is to do a few months at a time. One other possibility - what about entrances into signs (all except the Moon - that is a huge amount of work)!
Love
Dave

Maria,
No problem - it would help if other people would be kind enough to give their opinions on what they want to see there as well.
Love
Dave
