I'm stating my claim on the effects of refined sugar and white flour. Within the last couple of weeks my family caught a flu/stomach virus that has been on the rage here in Ky. It was truly the best thing that ever happened to me. Reason being I could'nt eat much of anything for over a week. This set the stage to lose weight which I seriously needed to do.
I know my poison and that is...sugar/yeasty products pastries, cakes etc... Myself being a baker and loving all those type of goodies it's easy for me to fall into the flab trap.
My 4 yr old son loves Honey. He'll ask for honey sandwiches above most everything else made with whole wheat bread,he refuses white bread,"Horray for him"
Is'nt it strange how we humans crave the things that harm us the most. The more I ate the no-no's the more I craved them. Troy "Woody", explained to me that reason being my body had built up yeast and yeast feeds off those no-no's...No More for me!
I've shed 10 lbs within the last week and all the excess bloat has left my body all because I refuse to feed this poison.
In our County we have a Bee Hive Factory. A gentelman by the name of Walter T. Kelley founded this company. Dad had discussed with me that this gentleman refused to eat refined sugar. Walter T.Kelley claimed that it was poison and I would tell Dad it is for sure mine. Mr. Kelley lived to be in his 90's.
By the way Kel,inform Hubby that Bren needs a bottle of Grapefruit seed extract. This will eliminate all the left over yeast hanging around inside myself waiting for the feast which it is not going to get

Hey Bren,

Thanks for sharing (I didn't know that Walter Kelley bit about sugar), and I hope and pray you can stay away from the poison this go round. ;\) I avoid refined sugar too if at all possible. Speaking of honey, I hope my brother gets around to sending me the raw honey they got for me and forgot to bring home for Christmas some day soon. I've been buying the regular processed stuff and it's not half as good.

We're going to E-town today, so I'll see if we can find any there. Kefir is good for yeast problems too, so the next time you or John come over I'll give you some. Also, when I have enough grains to share, I'll give you some so you can make your own. I just sent some to Dad in his gift box. I was telling him about it, and to my surprise (although I shouldn't be surprised that the Aquarian man knew about it) he used to drink it years ago, but fell off the wagon (got away from it for some reason that he doesn't recall).

If you want to know about the other benefits of Kefir, read Stephanie's thread about it.

Go get 'em. Bren. w00t w00t! I'll bet you'll feel better in a lot of ways. I, on the other hand, cannot eat whole grain bread. It's way too rough on my tummy. But I agree that white sugar should only be used in small doses or it can be poisonous. \:\) Here's to a healthier, clearer you!

Maria for your sweet words of encouragment. I am already in better spirits and I've also noticed my joint and muscle aches have eased... It's feeling good and I've got the mind set to do it again this time.

Hoooray for you!

Serious congratulations to the lady with the nerve to make a change for the better in her life!

For the last 7 years, I've struggled with what I believe is Type II Diabetes, because of my hardcore junk food habits. (All refined flour, processed sugar Hostess cyanide cakes.)

These days I only drink juice or water. (Or beer )

On the rare occasions I indulge in sweets, I can feel it burning its way through my system.

It's satisfying to know that someone else has taken a step away from this addictive poison.

I'm not sure why there isn't a campaign like there was against tobacco. We can prove that they are using sugar for its addictive properties. There are several 20 oz. vending machines around the country that will currently dispense an 11.8oz bottle of water (instead of the full 20 oz that you thought you'd be getting) if you choose the water option instead of a caffeine and sugar loaded soft drink.

Why would they give you more of the drink with the expensive ingredients in it? They're both made with the exact same purified water. You pay the same amount for either one. And yet, if it's not addicting, you'll get a smaller amount for that price.

If that's not direct evidence of an attempt to addict people, I don't know what is.

Again, thanks for the inspiration and spirals..

P.S. Did you say that you are a baker? That's interesting. My son and I recently embarked on a quest to make the perfect pizza. We would certainly appreciate any suggestions you might have on the recipe when it finally gets posted.

Hey daf,
I so appreciate your kindness and words here , it means so much.
I know what your talk'en about when you mention "Hostess", or how about those "Little Debbies"...Funny thing is this. They name all those snack cakes after Little Debbie but they turn people into Big Junk food Junkies...... They may be little treats individually too, but how many people sit down and eat just one....Not me! or not the old Bren anyway...I've got my guard up on these evil no-no's now.....
Is'nt it the truth about water vs. soda's in a vendor machine..They should offer bottled water, 20 oz, for less than the soda's for it's only water....But would they do this, No!!!
What I do is I take a bottle used and rinse it out and then refill it before leaving the house, or filling one up at a water fountain etc....Saves money..I'm a tight wad at heart.
Here's something funny daf, Just the other night I had the thought of trying to make my own homemade pizza..I rarely ever do this and why the thought came to mind I don't know...I was thinking,"What could I top that pizza with that would be healthy, yet delicious and different...Too that you and your son was thinking of the same thing.... Yes, I love to bake! I have a son in pre-school, so at holiday parties and so forth I take the opportunity to make goodies for them... Lord knows I can't just do this on a whim because I'm the only one in our household that devours such goodies..
I made cupcakes for their valentine party and iced them with my very own butter cream icing...They got rave reviews \:\)
It would be my pleasure to offer my suggestions to you on your creation. Thanks for asking
Bren~
