(3rd song down)

~ If a fiddler played you a song, my love
And if I gave you a wheel
Would you spin for my heart and loneliness
Would you spin for my love
If I gave up all of my pride for you
And only loved you for now
Would you hide my fears and never say
Tomorrow I must go
Everywhere there's rain my love
Everywhere there's fear
If you tell me a lie I'll cry for you
Tell me of sin and I'll laugh
If you tell me of all the pain you've had
I'll never smile again
Everywhere there's rain my love
Everywhere there's fear
I can plainly see that our parts have changed
Our sands are shifting around
Need I beg to you for one more day
To find our lonely love
Everywhere there's rain my love
Everywhere there's fear ~

Crazy LoveVan Morrison

I can hear her heart beat for a thousand miles
And the heavens open every time she smiles
And when I come to her thats where I belong
Yet Im running to her like a rivers song

Chorus:
She give me love, love, love, love, crazy love
She give me love, love, love, love, crazy love

Shes got a fine sense of humor when Im feeling low down
And when I come to her when the sun goes down
Take away my trouble, take away my grief
Take away my heartache, in the night like a thief

Chorus:
Yes I need her in the daytime
Yes I need her in the night
Yes I want to throw my arms around her
Kiss her hug her kiss her hug her tight

And when Im returning from so far away
She gives me some sweet lovin brighten up my day
Yes it makes me righteous, yes it makes me feel whole
Yes it makes me mellow down in to my soul

Van the Man could sing Danke Shaen and touch our Souls.
Love It ;\)
There's Something mournfully haunting about his Voice that comforts the savage beast in Us, each song holding it's Special Place in our hearts.

I feel that Way about a lot of Singers/Songwriters...
the Muses of the Masses minstraling their Way through Time...
captured for Ever like prose in the Ethers.

Giving Us the SoundTracks to our Lives...

Every Time I hear certain SOngs, I am transported the that specific TIme in my Life, when I either first heard IT, or a poignant Moment was happening simultaneously.
Quite like smell.
Only with Sound, you can both hear and Listen.
The Listening warrants powerful Memory.
And keeps us steadfast to reMEmbering ourselves to Our Selves.

I remember the day I left for college.
It was a particularly crisp Fall day.
The sky was BLUE.
The clouds pasted up like colorforms.
The trees kodachrome.
The smell of Nostalgia was in the Air.
I was packing my "things" full of wonder and excitement.
MElancholy about leaving my "room" for the last time.
Knowing how important this moment was.
On my desk, hidden under my portfolio
was a Hallmark Card and a CD, wrapped in bright Flora.
My mother has snuck in a tender Word without speaking to me.
Reading Words too hard to say ...I opened the Present.
"Tea for the Tillerman" lie in my hands.
A Guide to the Ride I was getting on to.
A Manual for the "Wild World" I was stepping into...
leaving the nest that was made easy for me all t hese years.
I had known the Cat since I was alive.
His Music filled my Hopes and Dreams with Fuel.
His Words like an absent grandfather, spoke to me
in Times of Lostness.

But this was Special.
This Present was a token.
A reMinder that this was a Rite of Passage
and my Life would never BE the same.
My journey was one I would share with and without
my parents.
From start to finish, I listened to the Music.
Every Word. Every nuance....
taking IT All in.
Armouring me with sheilds of Love,
broadening my sWord and view of the OnederFull
World I lived in.
I committed IT to memory.
Every Word. Every Note.
IT is, to this Day , ever present in me. \:\)
And shall remain.
And for that I am most thankfull
to the Cat Stevens.
And my Mother.

Ironically...hear is a Favorite.

I really meant to Post this Song....
One that All Ways catches me off guard and reMinds me...
I am NOT a Lone.

I'de Love to Change the Whirled.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUokMbJC3P8

[i]C'mon...sing along, You know the Words. \:\/

Everywhere is freaks and hairies
Dykes and fairies, tell me where is sanity
Tax the rich, feed the poor
Till there are no rich no more
I'd love to change the world
But I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you

Population keeps on breeding
Nation bleeding, still more feeding economy (RIFF.)

Life is funny, skies are sunny
Bees make honey, who needs money, Monopoly (RIFF.)

*(CHORUS)

Oh yeah !

(GUITAR SOLO)

World pollution, there's no solution
Institution, electrocution
Just black and white, rich or poor
Them and us, stop the war

AMen to that. \:\)

Halo Musicologists \:\)

The day unfolded rather abrubtly today
One of those Daze where you find Your Self in One.
Each turned corner worse than the Other
Where Fun houses aren't so fun. \:\(

I am glad it is NightTime Now. \:\/

NoneTheLess

Music all ways reMinds me
that I 've had this Day before
and I am sure It will reTurn a Gain.
A Click on the radio brought me to my Mod Daze
of Poetic Youth
and Romantic Stirrings
when all that mattered was feeling something...
anything at All.

This song will All Ways hold it's Place in my Heart.

Awesome thread guys and gals.

Chahles, what you said before about songs transporting you back in time is so true. The memory you shared of leaving for college and finding the present your mother left for you reminds me of something similar my mother did for me when I was embarking on another type of 9th house adventure - my first trip on an airplane.

The night before my flight, she wrote me a letter straight from her Cancer Moon heart and told me not to open it until I was on the plane. She was probably petrified that she would never see me again. The guy I was seeing at the time probably thought the same thing too because he kept singing these lyrics to me: "I'm leaving on a jet plane. I don't know when I'll be back again."

That song will always take me back to the springtime of my life when everything was so fresh and new. *Sigh* Another song that takes me there is this Kelly Clarkson number:

"Miss independent
Miss self-sufficient
Miss keep your distance

Miss unafraid
Miss out of my way
Miss don't let a man interfere, no

Miss on her own
Miss almost grown
Miss never let a man help her off her throne

So, by keeping her heart protected
She'll never, ever feel rejected
Little miss apprehensive
Said ooh, she fell in love...

Misguided heart
Miss play it smart
Miss if you wanna use that line, you better not start, no

But she miscalculated
She didn't wanna end up jaded
And this miss decided not to miss out on true love

So, by changing a misconception
She went in a new direction
And found inside, she felt a connection
She fell in love...

When miss independent walked away
No time for love that came her way
She looked in the mirror and thought today
What happened to miss no longer afraid?
It took some time for her to see
How beautiful love could truly be
No more talk of why can't that be me
I'm so glad I've finally seen

What is this feeling taking over?
Thinking no one could open the door
Surprise, it's time, to feel what's real
What happened to miss independent's no longer need to be defensive?
Goodbye, old you, when love, is true"

This one always reminds me of the time I was ordained "The Independent Woman of the 90's", which only lasted for all of 3 months. And I've been in a relationship ever since. I suppose that's a double Libra for you. \:D

Anyhow, many thanks to all who have shared the lovely tunes on this thread.

Hi Star!!! I really like Jack Johnson too.

And I'd not heard of Ben Harper so thanks for introducing him, he's really good! I love his lap slide guitar; the history on Wikipedia said it became popular when service men learned this technique stationed in Hawaii during WW1+2. (I guessed it was from folk country music - Appalachian dulcimers, but I was wrong.)

lxCiel,
Yea!!! to Nina Simone!

Venus, heres the video Kelly Clarkson - Miss Independent.

Archaeus,

I liked the Kills song on your Existential Revolt thread; they sound American but the Kills bio explains.

Thanks to everyone for this lovely thread.

Please excuse the cynical tone of this enchanting comic video Lily Allen - LDN about good and the absence of good. If you like it also watch her Alfie video.

Halo Venus \:\)

Trapped like Time in a Bottle...some songs will forEver Be
personalized by the experience One had while listening to them...
and there are so many that depict that very notion. From "Morning has broken" to "Night Moves" and all the Thunderoads in between..."Leaving on a Jet Plane" is certainly one of those songs we All attach ourselves to.
Sad how John Denver wrote that! \:\(

IxCeil and SolaneStar...thank You for those classic songs that too hold memory for me in many Ways.I like the added advantage of the link to video. It makes for a fantastic Word montage as You read. I wonder if we can create a Thread or Forum that will allow artistc interpretation of old songs....playing the song while reading Knowflakes WOrds. Hmmm...have to think about that one. A new medium in the chat room.

Halo Imagines \:\)
Jack Johnson is so chill. Very cool.

Here's an older guitar player at Woodstock whom I have recently had the Great honor of meeting in the Village....one of my favorites of all Time and sings today with as much enthusiasm as a rebellious young man with something to say.
And boy can Richie Havens play an Ax....

Music can be the glue for society, eh? Sometimes anyway.

I read about an elephant in a zoo who lost her mate and couldn't be consoled until they started piping music in, it calmed the elephant - who likes Mozart best.

I've also heard of passengers on an airplane all joining together to sing the theme to Gilligans Island.

Chahlie something you wrote ;\) reminded me of this pretty song: Jim Croce - Time in a Bottle

Again thanks to all for a lovely thread and a lovely site!
