I am touched to the bone every time I see you, 4 years later. My heart beats so hard for loving you sometimes that it's all I can do to keep it in my chest.

It was hard to tell that I might be worth loving before I met you. Everyone else I met wanted me to be something they wanted me to be or do something they wanted me to do or act some way that they wanted me to act.

You've never done anything but support me in whatever I wanted to do or be. You have loved me unconditionally in a way that no one...and I mean no one in this life has done before. And I love you as much and as unconditionally, for as long as you'll let me.

The Fall season once asked me

only the benefits of being nearby.

Like you read the runes to me, perhaps half in contemplation that it didn't matter.

But it did matter, and it does matter..

Like scrambled eggs matter, on an English muffin. Like a small table matters when you've nothing to set your books on. It matters.

Like a printer cartridge when you've so much to say that can't be confined to a monitor. Like a 12 pack of beer when the pain won't stop. Like patiently listening to some drop D chords and bad truckin' songs. Like a bar of soap...it matters.

And don't you know that there aren't many sighs like yours? Or tears like yours? Or a smile like yours? Like a 4 cheese pizza and an hour or two. Like vegetable soup and a walk through the woods. Or making love where the birds can see. Or the dumb old shows that you watch with me. Like a chapter from your favorite Kerouac book. Or the towels you wash. And a loving look.

Like the words you say while you're ringing up things..for $37.50. Like forgetting blame. Like the things you've done..and the things you do. When you think of me and you read those runes..it matters.
