Thank you, thank you.

I was having an interesting conversation about this yesterday.
The question asked was:
If we stop paying the Federal government, wouldn't all of the people on Social Security be screwed?
Good question. Yes, I suppose they would. Unless of course our government did what it had promised to do: save the money we'd been paying in. If the Federal government had kept its word..the money paid in by current recipients should still be there..plus interest. IF the government had kept its word and done its job (keeping that pension money in trust.)
But the government didn't keep its word. They spent the money, and now they are asking us to cover up the theft with new money to cover their IOUs.
If we stopped paying the Federal government and kept our money..sure..retirees would be in bad shape. They'd probably be infuriated at the government for taking their money and leaving them high and dry.
I suppose their relatives would be pretty indignant about it too. In fact, I suppose their friends and other associates might end up a little ticked off at the government for stealing the money and leaving a senior to starve or go on welfare.
So again, why is it that we don't want people to get angry at bureaucrats for stealing their money and trying to hide it?
I don't think we had a problem with folks getting mad at Enron executives.
In fact, most of us were pretty mad right along with the workers who lost their pensions. How is this any different except for the fact that we're being forced to pay in order to cover up the crime?
It made me wonder what's wrong with our heads these days. We really are insane in a way. Let's hope that insanity points its momentum in the right direction soon.
From the heartland to you,
