I am staring this thread because from time to time I will be posting articles that I have found in a old astrological magazine that was published over 100 years ago called Modern Astrology published by the famous astrologer Alan Leo. It actually started in 1890 and the series that I have access to starts in 1895 and lasted well into the 1920’s although Leo died in 1917.

Alan Leo was basically the first astrologer who attempted to break away from the old mold of “fated” astrology – planets were “good” or “evil” and was aware of the “esoteric” side of astrology, although in essence it really wasn’t esoteric – just an enlightened exoteric astrology which made a huge influence in how astrology evolved to the psychological model that it now is. He in supplements (and I don’t know how many yet!) basically wrote the first edition of the books that he published (and sometimes were better than the actual book he wrote). He along with his wife Bessie were Theosophists and that had a huge influence and I know that he went to Madras India on several occasions. He met George Sutcliffe – I won’t say any more about that for now, except to say that this is not the first lifetime that I have read Modern Astrology!

I first ran across the series about 20 years ago when I was doing research on Vulcan (and found some neat stuff) at the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County and have looked at it from time to time and about 3 years ago, I realized that it would be worth scanning the volumes, but I did not have the means to do so at that time, although I got the OK from the head of the department that “owns” them to do so. So, about 6 weeks ago, the library opened up a technology center and some of the stations have scanners with them – so with a flash drive it has been easy to bring them home and work on them (and check to see if the images I have are OK), and right now I have completed the first 6 volumes and am about halfway through the 7th volume – along with four supplements (one is a Complete Dictionary of Astrology ). There is in the catalog record a note that there are supplements but none of them are listed (and are nor listed as separates in the catalog), and as I can document them, I am giving that documentation to the Library so that the catalog record can eventually be updated (lots of fun!). The staffs of several departments at the Library have really been helpful. By the way, because of the age of the material, the copyrights have long been in the public domain.

What I have done with each completed volume or supplement is as I complete it is to convert the images (along with volume pagination, table of contents and index) to an Adobe Acrobat file (which are quite large!).

As I was going through the images of Volume 7, I noticed that there was an article on “The Regimen of Saturn” and read it and said “Oh wow!” – and converted the file and I will start a separate thread with both the text of it and attached to it an Adobe Acrobat file so that it is easily downloaded.

As I find other “goodies”, I will post what I have “found” in this thread and do a separate thread for the topic at hand.
