hello

My Mom had surgery a couple of days ago to remove
a parathyroid in her throat (she has hyper-parathyroid disease) and since then she's been in intensive care
in the hospital due to unexpected complications.
(it was supposed to be an out-patient proceedure).

Her airway in her wind-pipe remains very narrow
and she's having great difficulty breathing.
They've tried different breathing treatments,
but her condition remains unchanged
and since it is life-threatening,
they will most likely performing a tracheotomy on her soon.

Please keep her in your prayers.



I'm leaving for the hospital soon,
and will update as soon as I'm able.

Thanks so much everyone

I'll relay all your messages to her,
knowing how touched she'll be
and the strength and hopeful
feeling it will give her.

She had a better day yesterday.

She was able to sit up in a chair
and they took her off the helium mask
(helium and oxygen mix)
and put her on just oxygen,
then reduced the oxygen a bit
later in the day
and she took that well.
Hopefully, moment by moment
her airway will open more
and she can avoid a tracheotomy
altogether.

They're not sure the cause,
but believe it may have been a
combination of her sensitivity
in the throat area
and some mistake when the tube
was inserted there, just prior
to surgery.

If she's breathing ok today,
they hope to take her mask
off and see if she is able to
walk a bit.

My Dad just discovered he has
bladder cancer and was supposed
to begin chemo treatments June 24th
but may need to put it off for a
little bit, since they cannot
both be incapacitated at the
same time. I worry about the
added stress on him at this time,
but am remaining hopeful,
since his recent surgery revealed
his cancer is contained in his bladder
(stage 1) and they hopefully caught
it in good time.

She's coming home today!!!

It will take her probably a couple of weeks
to fully recover, but her recovery
has been amazing so far...
and thanks to all your love, I'm sure.

I printed up this thread for her
and my Dad took it to her to read.
When I talked to her on the phone
(all whispery, but thankfully
able to talk again)
she choked up with emotion,
and said to make
sure to pass on that she loves
you all and your care and concern
is greatly appreciated.

how much soon enough.

That is such wonderful news that your mom is well enough now to come home! Hi Everyone

I just wanted to tell you all thanks so much for your prayers and love and healing light sent both mine and Butch's way. Sorry to be so long in responding but I am taking it a day at a time and baby steps at a time. Been spending most of my time on the couch sleeping off and on.

Don't know how long this will take or even if full recovery is in the cards. Best as I can surmise from all that the doctors said etc. is that I had a severe allergic reaction to the anesthesia. I am just hoping and praying that none of the damage is permanent. My voice is improving so that does not seem at all a permenent condition.

I am hoping that the lung part gets better soon. Just taking a shower and getting dressed these days is a major project.

Maria, thanks for planting the flowers for me. That is so sweet and touched me deeply.

Thanks to everyone in RLC for your prayers, light and Reiki sent my way and thank to all you here at CE. Your prayers and love and support was something that I kept at the forefront of my mind the whole time I was in the hospital and I still keep it there as it gives me strength, courage and hope.

So glad that you are home healing (which is the best place to be). Prayers are and will be continuing for you and Butch to have a speedy recovery and a return to good health!

You take it easy lady and don't push yourself too hard. Like Lisa said to us in the prayer circle... maybe the silver lining in this situation is that not being able to smoke for so long will give you the boost you need to stop smoking completely.
