Creating our own reality

When discussing the nature of human existence, and the effects of human society on us all, I frequently espouse a return to simpler ways. I do so for two reasons:
The first is that I don't feel that we are doing our people any great favors by teaching them to be dependent on a life of relative ease at the cost of their freedom to express what they are. Understand, that I DON'T believe that it's "human nature" to be cruel, nor to compete or to dominate one another. I feel that these are learned responses and that children taught otherwise would just as readily...or perhaps more naturally be inclined to acts of kindness and sharing.
I feel that somewhere in the early history of our race, our fascination with the power of predatory animals, combined with our fear of the dangers of the world were the genesis of our animal gods, and soon became the basis for our predatory dominating behavior. But those are acts of fear and ignorance which I feel very strongly go against our TRUE human nature.
Many people respond to my appeals with the remark that I'm "not living in reality." Which brings me to the second reason that I espouse a return to simpler ways: all indications are that human society today is not living in reality.
The very nature which we've left is STILL there, refusing to go away. Nothing we make can stop this unstoppable force and it is somewhat arrogant of us to assume that we could eradicate the very process which gave birth to our race.
You have only to look to realize that we have created a fantasy land around ourselves which we must constantly maintain against the will of the forces which surround us. The grass growing through our sidewalks fights against our manufactured illusion. The effects of corrosion on our steel structures fight against our manufactured illusion. The Sun itself withers and degrades our manufactured illusion. The wind and the rain and the trees uprooting our foundations bear testament to the fact that it isn't nature that's "not the reality" but every single one of man's creations.
There was a show on the History Channel in which scientists around the world predicted what would happen if human society disappeared tomorrow. They projected that within a mere 200 years after our demise, nature would have reclaimed everything that we have made our own. The primary reason for this is that in order for society's manufactured "reality" to continue to exist..people must maintain it.
Our buildings, our bridges, our roadways, our vehicles...everything we've produced up until now must be maintained in a constant battle against nature. This seems to indicate that the vast majority of our "industry" on this planet consists of FIGHTING AGAINST REALITY in order to maintain our version of reality. It seems to indicate that this so-called reality in which we live is in actuality, a manufactured illusion.
If we aren't engaged in converting the natural world into new creations, then we are laboring away at maintaining those creations in direct contradiction to the reality which surrounds us. We are manufacturing an illusion...and then maintaining that illusion. And THAT is what we call industry.
Industry is simply the enforcement of a manufactured illusion against the will of EVERYTHING around us. The birds crap on our statues and we clean them. The grass grows up from our lawns and we trim them. The trees attack our power lines and we cut them. The oceans corrode our ships and we maintain them. The sun and the rain and the weather crumble our roadways...and we repair them. This is what we are doing. This is the nature of human industry and human society. We are living in the midst of a manufactured illusion...and that's ok. What's not ok, is that we've come to see this as reality and anyone who espouses a return to simpler life as "unrealistic." That's delusional.
It would only take one major disaster, the sort that have happened many times on our planet before, to throw the entirety of our society back into the reality of the natural world. And how ill-prepared we would be! How quickly the members of a "civilized" society would demonstrate how truly uncivilized and out-of-touch we have become. How quickly we would realize how weak we are..how unequipped for reality and it's ways.
And that is, perhaps the most compelling reason for returning to a simpler way: to prepare ourselves and our people to live in the reality which, as our constant struggle indicates..IS NOT in accordance with our current ways.
And if the nature of nature is to oppose what we do and what we create, and if our race is born of those natural processes..one could argue that at some level..WE are opposed to what we do and create.
One might suggest that modern, technologically inundated human beings are as destined to crumble as any of our creations.

Hi Daf, I definitely do hear you about the return to simpler ways. I often find myself saying the same thing in regards to the gas prices. If we all were to burn logs for heat and bring back the horse and carriages for transportation, we could send those oil companies into bankruptcy. But alas, it is so much easier said than done now that we are so hooked on and dependent upon technology as it is today. But if prices keep going up the way they are, people may begin to have no choice but to return to the simpler ways. I saw that History Channel show you referred to and thought it was pretty wild. Until a hurricane or tornado comes barreling along, we often forget just how strong and resilient nature is. Industry vs Nature - I hadn't quite thought about it in that way before, but you've got a point there. That is precisely what's going on. It's really very sad when you stop and think about it. And when you say that it would only take one major disaster to throw society back into the natural world, it reminds me of all the 2012 Mayan Prophecy stuff I've been reading. Have you been reading up on that topic too by any chance? It's pretty intriguing stuff. Anyhow, great thread Daf. Thanks for posting it.

Thanks for taking the time.
Oh I've thought about 2012. I've thought about 2012 alot. If you read something called "Dreams of the False Prophet" you'll learn of both my daughter's nightmares, and my waking visions of a great catastrophe which I believe is destined to hit some time in that year.
As my friend Brother Ray used to say, "God said we would not know the day nor the hour..he didn't say anything about the year."
I've felt, through my mind's eye...as real as though it were already happening, a wall of water..between 800 and 1000 feet high, engulfing the Tijuana River Valley.
I felt a great sense of panic years before these visions, the closer I got to Chicago..and it was partly my reason for leaving that area.
If I might go into my feelings on what is going to happen without appearing to try to "predict the future", perhaps it will serve to put these notions into perspective.
I feel that the current "Truth" movements (Rainbow Family, 9/11, RFID, etc) are preparing people to embrace what I've always called "The Turning Away."
I envision, that during the next major cycle of Sun Spot Activity, a great Solar Flare will disrupt the Earth's magnetic field, causing the crust to slide. (Look up "Solar Typhoons" by Jared Freedman) When this happens, the Earth's great bodies of water will appear as bowls of water, violently sloshing as the crust is moved...producing the great waves that I mention above.
It's no coincidence (or perhaps it is) that our major metropolitan areas are primarily located along the shores of these great bodies of water. No doubt, this was and is a matter of convenience. Great cities grow up around trade, and shipping lanes make for great ports of trade. It also conveniently locates the most materialistic and power hungry of our people next to those great bodies of water.
When these waves hit, people will die. They will die by the millions, if not by the tens or hundreds of millions..all around the world.
At first, this disturbed me greatly and in fact, it still does. But I know in my heart, that the Great Spirit, Tao, God, Allah or whatever you care to call it..is not cruel. I know that all things happen for a reason.
To go on, I believe that after this catastrophe hits, the current system, with its grids of power and its mighty fist of influence will go down for awhile.
It is at that point that I believe those who are disillusioned with the way that we live today, will turn away from "the old ways"..our current ways..and begin to coalesce in small, rural communities.
But I don't think it ends there. I believe that another group of individuals will desperately want to rebuild "the old society", and will try to do so using the old methods: force, violence, technological superiority.
This will mark the years of war between the two factions. Less a war of violence than a war of ideology. It will fall upon the shoulders of the "peaceful folk" to remain peaceful..and simply to disregard their fear in favor of their freedom.
Some might say...why would a God of love do such a horrible thing? Why would the Creative Spirit, if it is beneficent, kill so many people? I can only answer that I cried for 3 years over the tragedy that I believe will befall our people. In the end, I came to know the peace that comes from understanding that the Mighty Tao/God/Allah does not waste human lives..and that we come back...perhaps to be raised among more loving people who have found a better way to live.
Others might ask, "But why would God have us go through these thousands of years of building our society only to tear it down again?" To that I can only answer that you don't TRULY know how incorrect your notions are until you're allowed to test them. We have been testing this way for a very long time now, and it's not working out. Perhaps the reason for going through this, is so that we'll know the end result of worshiping self-interest over concern for others and of allowing humans to govern our lives rather than our own hearts and consciences from which come the dictates of a higher power. Perhaps, having learned our lesson, we will avoid building might monuments to men and thrones upon which to place them.

Hi Daf, Thanks for your reply. Everything in your post sounds very much like what I’ve read so far about the Mayan Prophecies. It seems your visions are tapping into what they believe will happen on December 21, 2012, which is when they say the Earth begins a new Age that will come about by earthquakes I believe it was. The sinking of Atlantis is how the age prior to this one ended. I found a website that goes into it further for anyone who is interested: http://www.december212012.com/articles/mayan/7.shtmlIf these prophecies prove true, then much of what you are saying about the ending of commerce and government as it is now will come to be. It seems so odd for life as we know it to come to an end in just 4 years and 3 months from now. It sure will be interesting to see just how this shift in the earth’s magnetic field will play out. Perhaps we are already seeing some of those affects happening now when you consider some of the major typhoon activity this earth has already seen just in the past few years. The most recent one just this summer wiped out 100,000 people. According to what I’ve read so far, we are going to enter the Golden Age which is a more spiritual one where earthly concerns such as time will cease to exist because we will have reached the 5th dimension of existence. It all seemed so unreal looking through our human lens, but at the same time, I’m open to the possibility. It sure would be interesting to see what happens at the end of this next presidential term and what events will take place during it to set the stage for whatever is to happen on 12/21/12. I don’t believe that Higher Power is the one to blame for this if it does happen as the Mayans say. I believe that anything that happens on earth is the direct result of the actions we choose to take and that our lives progress in evolutionary cycles which might coincide with the ages of 5,125 years each according to the info in that website. And we just happen to be coming upon the end of one now if Mayan calculations are correct. And if that’s the case, then the time has come for whatever is to be after that. If millions of people lose their lives in these earthquakes and typhoons that you and the Mayans and I’m sure many others have foreseen, I believe as you do that the souls will survive as they can not be destroyed, and will move on to another form of existence. And I also believe that this will be in accordance to the wills of those souls as I believe that souls choose their endings and beginnings and all that is experienced in between each incarnation. So whatever is to come after 12/21/12, I say bring it on. Whatever comes, I’m sure we can handle it or it wouldn’t be happening. I actually hope that these prophecies are true and we all do enter into a more spiritual age of existence – and that we’re all finally ready for that at last. Although looking at the state of the world with parts of it at war as we speak, that prospect does seem unlikely. I guess all we can do is wait and see how we handle the next 4 years and do our best to be as prepared as possible.
