Hi All grin ,

I just had to share this...

Troy (my husband) was watching Home & Garden TV (HGTV) the other day, and yelled for me to come in to see what he was watching. It was a show called 'If Walls Could Talk'. They had Linda's old house in Cripple Creek and the owner's story of buying it and what they found. It had been vacant for 8 years and was fully furnished with all kinds of her stuff in it. They had the original manuscript for 'Sun Signs', a box full of the book 'Venus Trines At Midnight', collector plates of Alice in Wonderland, and jewelry among other things. I was amazed at all that was left behind. The wildest thing was that the owners share our last name. Too bad they didn't even know who Linda was, and are not into Astrology or any of the things Linda wrote about. It was real cool seeing her old house as she had it decorated.

I was wondering Maria, do you know the owners, and have you had the opportunity to see the inside in person? I know you got an old desk and that cassette with her voice at auction, so I'm thinking you have.

I should check and see if there's something on it on You tube.

Cracking Open the Past
First, it may be remote but Cripple Creek, Colo., is like a mecca to followers of a famous astrologer who lived in the small mountain town until the day she disappeared into thin air. When Janice and Rick Wood moved into her 1898 brownstone, they were astonished at what they found inside. Next, the 1700s Colonial of Maryan and Jeffry Muthersbaugh was so dilapidated they were happy just to get the layers of outrageous wallpaper down. So imagine their surprise when they discover their home has a link to old Hollywood and a mysterious safe. Then, when Robert Williams and Heike Grigsby first find pieces of glass in the attic of their 1899 Victorian in Montgomery, N.Y., they figure they have a lot of cleaning up to do. When the glass is held up to the light they discover it is not trash at all—and that is just the beginning. Finally, we return to the Muthersbaughs' house to see an expert safe-cracker open that basement safe.

Absolutely. smile You can go in there too. It's the Last Dollar Inn now, and the first three pictures on my now-ancient Linda profile on this site are pix I took of and in that house.

Janice and Rick are good people. They gave me a copy of Venus Trines from that box. They've sold the inn though, they no longer own it. That was Linda's first Cripple Creek house. The house in Star Signs. She later moved up the hill.

And you're right that they didn't know much Linda lore when they bought the place. They didn't know, for instance, that the big stuffed dog in the basement was Heathcliff ... from Gooberz. So, you know, Heathcliff is long gone. frown Janice felt kind of bad about that later.

Maria,

I knew you would have some info... in fact you've probably shared it before, but it's been so long, I'd forgotten. Wow, that program must be really old... I don't remember seeing when the original air date was. It didn't talk about the stuffed dog, but yes Juni, they showed the black dress that was left behind that fit Janice... they even showed her wearing it. I wonder why Linda left all of that stuff behind, if she moved into a new house in the same town? I remember when I moved out of my last house, the new owner wanted everything out, even stuff in the garage that I thought she may want to use to store things in.

That would be a cool place to stay if I ever make it to Cripple Creek. grin
