"And forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair."
Kahlil Gibran
"There once was a king who offered a prize to the artist who would paint the best picture of peace. Many artists tried. The king looked at all the pictures. But there were only two he really liked, and he had to choose between them.
One picture was of a calm lake. The lake was a perfect mirror for peaceful towering mountains all around it. Overhead was a blue sky with fluffy white clouds. All who saw this picture thought that it was a perfect picture of peace.
The other picture had mountains, too. But these were rugged and bare. Above was an angry sky, from which rain fell and in which lightning played. Down the side of the mountain tumbled a foaming waterfall. This did not look peaceful at all.
But when the king looked closely, he saw behind the waterfall a tiny bush growing in a crack in the rock. In the bush a mother bird had built her nest. There, in the midst of the rush of angry water, sat the mother bird on her nest-in perfect peace.
Which picture do you think won the prize? The king chose the second picture. Do you know why?
"Because," explained the king, "peace does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble, or hard work. Peace means to be in the midst of all those things and still be calm in your heart. That is the real meaning of peace."

Everybody can be great...because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.

Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.

Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgment that something else is more important than fear.
Ambrose Redmoon
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light not our darkness that frightens us. We ask ourselves 'who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous?'
Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It's not just in some of us; its in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."
Marianne Williamson
"Evil (ignorance) is like a shadow--it has no real substance of its own, it is simply a lack of light. You cannot cause a shadow to disappear by trying to fight it, stamp on it, by railing against it, or any other form of emotional or physical resistance. In order to cause a shadow to disappear, you must shine light on it."
Shakti Gawain
If there is light in the soul,
There will be beauty in the person.

There will be peace in the world.

Give Us Hearts to Understand
Give us hearts to understand
Never to take from creation’s beauty more than we give;
Never to destroy wantonly for the furtherance of greed,
Never to deny to give our hands for the building of earth’s beauty,
Never to take from her what we cannot use.
Give us hearts to understand
That to destroy earth’s music is to create confusion;
that to wreck her appearance is to blind us to beauty;
That to callously pollute her fragrance is to make a house
of stench; that as we care for her she will care for us.
We have forgotten who we are.
We have sought only our own security.
We have exploited simply for our own ends.
We have distorted our knowledge.
We have abused our power.
Great Spirit, whose dry lands thirst,
Help us to find the way to refresh your lands.
Great Spirit, whose waters are choked with debris
and pollution, help us to find the way to cleanse your waters.
Great Spirit, whose beautiful Earth grows ugly with misuse,
help us to find the way to restore beauty to your handiwork.
Great Spirit, whose creatures are being destroyed,
help us to find a way to replenish them.
Great Spirit, whose gifts to us are being lost in selfishness
and corruption, help us to find the way to restore our humanity.
~ Big Thunder (Bedagi) late 19th. century Algonquin ~
Native Commandments
Treat the Earth and all that dwell thereon with respect.
Remain close to the Great Spirit.
Show respect for all your fellow beings.
Work together for the benefit of all Mankind.
Give assistance and kindness wherever needed.
Do what you know to be right.
Look after the well being of mind and body.
Dedicate a share of your efforts to the greater good.
Be truthful and honest at all times.
Take full responsibility for your actions.
Let us greet the dawn of a new day when all can live
as one with nature and peace reigns everywhere.
Oh Great Spirit, bring to our brothers the wisdom of Nature
and the knowledge that if her laws are obeyed this land
will again flourish and grasses and trees will grow as before.
Guide those that through their councils
seek to spread the wisdom of their leaders to all people.
Heal the raw wounds of the Earth and restore to our soul the richness
which strengthens men’s bodies and makes them wise in their councils.
Bring to all the knowledge that great cities live only through the bounty
of the good earth beyond their paved streets and towers of stone and steel.
~ Jasper Saunkeah, Cherokee ~
O Great Creator,
I come before you in a humble manner
and offer you this sacred pipe.
With tears in my eyes and an ancient song from my heart
I pray.
To the four powers of Creation,
To the Grandfather Sun,
To the Grandmother Moon,
To the Mother Earth,
And to my ancestors.
I pray for all my relations in Nature,
All those who walk, crawl, fly and swim,
Seen and unseen,
To the good spirits that exist in every part of Creation.
I ask that you bless our elders and children,
families and friends,
And the brothers and sisters who are in prison.
I pray for the ones who are sick on drugs and alcohol
And for those who are now homeless and forlorn.
I also pray for peace among the four races of humankind.
May there be good health and healing on this earth,
May there be Beauty above me,
May there be Beauty below me,
May there be Beauty in me,
May there be Beauty all around me.
I ask that this world be filled with Peace, Love and Beauty.

Gift From the Creator
The man whispered, "Creator, speak to me."
And a meadowlark sang.
But the man did not hear.
So the man yelled, "Creator, speak to me!"
And thunder rolled across the sky.
But the man did not listen.
Then the man looked around and said, "Creator, let me see You!"
And a star shone brightly.
But the man did not notice.
And the man shouted, "Creator, show me a miracle!"
And a life was born.
But the man did not know.
So the man cried out in despair...
"Touch me Creator, Let me know You are here!"
Whereupon the Creator reached down and touched the man.
But the man brushed the butterfly away and walked on.
A wise woman who was traveling in the mountains found a precious stone in a stream. The next day she met another traveler who was hungry, and the wise woman opened her bag to share her food. The hungry traveler saw the precious stone and asked the woman to give it to him. She did so without hesitation. The traveler left, rejoicing in his good fortune. He knew the stone was worth enough to give him security for a lifetime. But a few days later he came back to return the stone to the wise woman.
"I've been thinking," he said, "I know how valuable the stone is, but I give it back in the hope that you can give me something even more precious. Give me what you have within you that enabled you to give me the stone."
