Hi Chrissie, If you are using www.astro.com, then go into the extended chart option... There are 4 option boxes on the right hand side of the page. The first picks the chart you want...pick natal, 2nd is the style...use either the default or the student one The thirs option is the house system pick the one you want (placidus, Koch or Equal are the most popular I think) The 4th option is a box option where you can highlight a specific additional item ont he chart...Vertex is on there. Then just run the chrt...it's the item with Vtx or somthing along those lines. hope this helps Lis

Hi Tink! Is there a book available that covers and analyzes vertex and asteroids? Also about POF. Don't know much about these subjects. 6th house vertex seems to look OK, looking at the list you have.

Hi Tink and Cristina, I was looking on the web because this caught my interest also after I saw this thread. But, I couldn't find much of anything on analyzing vertex except for some short definitions. Vertex is on 25° Leo, in my 7th house. Any meaning to this? Thanks, Sabra

Hi Gang Chrissie Now the Vertex...is a whole different pond of paranhas than astroid. There are a few good books on astroids...if you ask Cat she may be able to recommend on to you...I have not gone into theses...there is one by some lady, Bradley I think was the name if memory serves me correctly. PoF is one of the arabic parts, there is a book by Zollar or Zoller that covers these, however if you look at the Pof as beign a point in your chart rather than a planet. IT ahs not orb if another planet has an aspect to it then it comes into paly, it's a small jupiter where you luck lies. As for the Vertex well I think there are a few good web links which I will try and track down. I bleive it's something to do with life path. I will hunt a link . Hey Sabra and Enigma...I think we need to concentrate on houses and then cover palnets aspecting them 8th house is all about joint resources, how you share things, inheritance, death, mergers and taxes etc. 7th house is all about personal relationships and close bonds. So Jackie O' although previous first lady, remains more focused in the public mind because of JFK death and Onasses weath...i.e. someone elses money . Ok I will see if I can find a vertex link Lov n hugs Lis

Hi Everyone The Vertex Point: The Vertex point is found on the right side of the chart, and has been called an "unconscious Descendant," and is a very sensitive point having to do with relationship and partnership matters. Another person's planets conjunct one's vertex can be highly significant in a relationship. Vertex midpoints in synastry also pertain to the nature of close relationships. Conjunctions to the Vertex and Vertex midpoints in synastry often have a "karmic" feeling about them. And some more info..... . The Vertex The Vertex is not a planet. It is an intersection of the ecliptic with the prime vertical (Nadir) in the West. In an astrological Chart, The Vertex always appears in the Western Hemisphere of the chart, usually through Houses 5-8. Because of the location of the Vertex in the West, the nature of the Vertex is about the "relating" principle. The house the Vertex is located in your own birth chart will define the types of relationships you seek or draw into your life and how you utilize the principle of relating in all of your relationships. When people you meet have planets conjunct your vertex or visa versa you will see something special about them...and you do not usually forget the person. There is an instant connection on some level and for some specific purpose. The nature of the relationship can be intense and have a sense of fatedness. It seems that the vertex attracts important or fated people and events into our lives. Examples: If ones person's Mars is conjunct (the same astrological degree) your own Vertex you will probably think that person to be very sexy/sexual and connected with their dynamic energy. The may either incite or excite you! When a person's Saturn is conjunct your Vertex, they may be somewhat "stabilizing" or offer some sage advice to you. You may look up to this person for the discipline, lessons or structures they bring into your life or visa versa. We do not always welcome the lessons or Saturnian energy one brings to a relationship. And here's a couple of vertex links for you. Hey bissie I don't tink it's meant to be felt as such, I think it's more or less how you are seen to the outside world, I am not really up on it. Cat thanks for the link, at the mo I am looking at natal placements rather than relationships. Interesting that JFK's is in his 8th not his 10th...one would figure that a politician would have a 10 hosue placement. The whole 5th hosue palcement makes perfect sence to me....leave your mark through creativity. Intersting stuff though Lov n hugs Lis

For those die-hards who want to understand what the Vertex "really" is ( ), here's an explanation of the Horizon system of coordinates that we base our horoscopes on. The Horizon system is composed of a "celestial sphere" which can be visualized as a great sphere surrounding the Earth. All of the points on Earth map to equivalent points on the celestial sphere, which contains the various "great circles" that define an astrological chart. The simplest picture of the horizon system, above, shows the celestial sphere (a projection of the surface of the earth) defined by the North and South poles, the Equator, and the Meridian (longitude) on which you were born. The red X is the point directly above the place on Earth where you were born, and is called the Zenith. The Earth is "tilted" approximately 23.5 degrees as it travels around the Sun. The plane that the Earth and all the planets travel in as they move around the sun is called the Plane of The Ecliptic. It is this plane that is divided up into the 12 signs of the Zodiac. (continued in following message) Love, Greg

The astronomical horizon system, part 2 The plane of the ecliptic bisects the Earth as it travels around the Sun. The ecliptic (red circle) is the third "great circle" in the horizon system ofr coordinates. From the point on Earth where you are born (beneath the Zenith) the Horizon appears to be another great circle bisecting the Earth from that point of view. Where the Horizon intersects with the Equator is the point due East of the birthplace, called the Equatorial Ascendant. (For those in the Northern hemisphere, it is just north of the Ascendant where the Sun and all the planets appear to "rise" along the ecliptic.)
The final great circle in the Horizon system is called the Prime Vertical. It is the circle drawn through the Equatorial Ascendant, Zenith, and Nadir. Where the Prime Vertical intersects the Ecliptic in the West is called the Vertex. Here the opposite of the Vertex is shown, the Anti-Vertex.
To see the actual Vertex, we have to extend the Prime Vertical and Ecliptic to show the other half of these great circles on the other side of the Celestial Sphere. As you can see, this point is 180 degrees away from the Anti-Vertex. Since the Ecliptic is the plane of the Zodiac, in this example you can see that the Vertex would be in the 8th house. It is almost always in the 5th, 6th, 7th or 8th House.
Whew! Love, Greg

Cristina, I don't personally use the Vertex in natal interpretations. It's a pretty recent addition to Astrology, having only been identified in the 20th century, so it's not really used in classical astrology at all. Some of the theories presented in the links and discussions above are interesting and sensible, but I can't really verify them from personal experience. What I have noticed is that the Vertex does seem to be a sensitive point that can be triggered by synastry with another person's chart, or by transits and progressions. The kinds of events or relationships triggered depend more on the sign placements than houses, although the house placement of the Vertex appears to contribute an elemental quality: fire for a 5th house Vertex, Earth for a 6th house, Air for 7th and Water for 8th. Love, Greg
