Thanks, Greg! That makes it a lot more.. umm...tangible. I am probably one of the exceptions to the rule, because my Vertex is in the 4th house. Does that give it a water element-like quality? Interestingly it's located in the sign of the Water-bearer.

EOTS, that happens rarely enough that I've read some astrologers who say the Vertex is "not worth delineating" in 4th or 9th houses (by definition it can't go beyond those, because then it would be the anti-vertex, and it's opposite would be the Vertex)! My own intuition is that any phenomenon that is rare adds emphasis, but I've not made a study of this. I would say yes, it is likely to have a watery quality, but remember that's not the "biggie" about the Vertex ... as a sensitive point like the chart "angles" it is most useful to watch as a trigger to transits, progressions and hits from other charts. Think of it like the Midheaven (MC) ... although some house systems "force" it to appear on the 10th house cusp, it actually is not on the same plane as the ascendant and descendant, so in the Equal house system it can be in the 8th, 9th or 10th house, but still retains its same basic meaning. Love, Greg

That is exactly what I was thinking, Greg! I'll see if I can find any information about such rare placements. Thanks a lot for the links, Tink, Sue and Sabra!

Hmmm, you know, my progressed vertex falls in my 1st house. Seriously. Is that possible?? Does anyone know? My prgressed ASC is 5 Scorpio and the prog Vertex is 7 Scorpio. The natal one is in my 7th house in Taurus. . . the 1st house seems rather odd. . . anyone have any idea? Thanks, Jennifer

Hi Jennifer Actually, that isn't possible ... something's awry somewhere! The Vertex is usually in houses 5 through 8, but CAN'T go beyond the Western hemisphere of the chart (houses 4 through 9) by definition. I peeked at your progressions from the data in your profile (might be a couple of degrees off because your city of birth isn't there, just state) and the positions I got coincide with your natal ascendant and vertex and the progressed ascendant you listed -- but I show your progressed vertex for today at 11 Gemini, in the 8th house. Love, Greg

Gregory !!!! Thank you so much-- wow that was fast-- Must be a glitch in my Astrodienst data. . .I should go check again. . . In the 8th house in Gemini, you say? Hmmm. Neat I'll have to watch that degree & the natal one as well-- I was reading all the debate & links regarding the 'meaning' or 'validity' of the Vertex. To my way of thinking-- just like Chiron, even though no one quite knows what it represents right off the bat, it has presented itself for a reason and the only way to learn is to watch your own chart & the chart of your near & dear & see what kinds of stuff go along with it. . . right??? Same goes for the Anti-Vertex. . .which should work like an 'unconscious ascendant' if the Vertex truly is an 'unconscious descendant'. . . hmmmmmm? So I'm natally a Libra Rising, but my Unconscious Asc would be Scorpio. . . I can sort of see how this is true ( sometimes I am trying to come off as charming, darling, sweet and angelic but people can perceive that as 'intense & a bit manipulative'-- ie, "your kindness is creepin' me out!") Hmmm. . .but I always thought that just came from having PLuto on my ASC. So, unconscious Desc would be Taurus-- am I unconsciously drawn to Taurean types. . ? I've certainly fallen for my share of Bulls. . . but it was very conscious. Well, my curiosity is piqued, I'll have to keep studying. Hope you guys will too, how else might we learn?????? Thanks again Greg. . . you're right on the ball!!! Love Jennifer
