Bumping this up, for various reasons. Please don't think it's for my ego! Actually, I've always been a little squeamish about how some things were rearranged in it and deleted from it and even added to it before it was published. (Not by Greg, just so ya know, he was a far better editor ... but anyway, it was still a pretty good start on the story and lots of people elsewhere have taken bits of it for their own tributes, which I don't mind.)
