Linda Goodman's poetry

I thought I'd share with you something that happened a few years ago. It was April of 97, I think. I was reading an anthology of poetry (a vanity press, not very professional) and came upon a poem I knew very well - it was "Sting of the Scorpion" by Linda Goodman and another person was using it as their own! It was written EXACTLY the same as Linda Goodman's own poem, except with a different title. I was horrifed! Now I am usually a quite, relatively shy person, but just get me on a cause I believe in and I can raise some fire! *hahaha* I called the publisher of the anthology and wrote a letter to Linda Goodman's estate, informing them of the incident. I was told that the situation was handled and I certainly hope so! It was awful to see someone use Linda's wonderful way with words and emotion to such an extent. On a much happier note, perhaps we can devote a "thread" here (I think that's what you call it) to Linda Goodman's beautiful poetry. She did wish to be known as a poet as well. And a jellicle, fabulous one she was, at that! LMB LMB

Hi LMB, I am so glad you have mentioned Linda's poetry, she was incredible. Being a Leo I do love page 98 in VENUS TRINES AT MIDNIGHT, called 'A Valentine for Leo, with Love' I'm assuming due to your reference to Sting of the Scorpion you have this book? What do you think of it? And what's your favorite piece?

Paul, Ah, I could go on about "Venus" and "Love Poems" all day. I have the book back in my room, however, and the Now finds me in the computer lab bookless (I am at school)...so I shall have to get back to you on specific titles. but...here is one that always sticks out at me: "I must leave you now...don't reach your heart across the room like that or my own will break...Love you? Of course I love you. That's why I have to go...before you know how much." I think I missed some sentences in there, i was doing that by memory...but you can find the poem from that. I truly love that, even though it stings my heart a little thinking of those who have left me, telling me the same thing. But she is right, as she is about many things. I'm going home for the weekend and won't have internet access (unless I can use my mother's boyfriend's but I don't know if he'll be home) so I'll get back to you on those poems on Sunday night, all right? *^*^* LMB

Paul, I am on my way to the train station to go home but I brought my "Venus" and wanted to tell you now which poems I especially adore. "Gemini-Gemini" has special significance for me. I love "Taurus" and oh, "The Fish Meets the Water Bearer is a special favorite. "Three Galaxies-Three", "Sting of the Scorpion", "Song of the Ram", "12th House Affliction" (the one I quoted earlier" and O! O! O! -- "Echo of Mars Unaroused" as well!! That one gives me such strength! Sadly, I must go now...returning Sunday night. Everyone have a fabulous weekend! LMB

Shagun, as much energy and enthusiasm as you've put into the discussions here, I'd like to send you a copy of Venus Trines at Midnight as a gift. Email me with your postal address, and I'll ship it to you.
