Dear friends,
I hope it's all right to post this as its own thread, I just couldn't find a place to put it under. I am awake early where I am because of a nightmare I just had so I got dressed and washed and escaped to the computer lab here to some sort of refuge. I read the Linda Goodman quote for today...and it frightens me just as my nightmare did. I woke up, crying. This morning I can't stop thinking about it. I do NOT want it or anything like it to happen to me or anybody. How do I stop the pictures??

Forgive me if this doesn't belong on the board...I am just plagued by this right now and there's no one where I am to talk about it with.

I wish you all better days and nights...

LMB

LMB,

I'm sorry to hear you had such a frightening nightmare. I know what it's like to feel plagued by the negative images left in your head. What I would suggest is that you edit this post and remove the description of the dream. Do you remember the part in Gooberz where the narrator counsels against repeating bad dreams? By telling everyone the specifics of it, you could actually end up feeding more energy to the negative images. So I would definitely advise removing the specifics of the dream.

As for cleansing the images from your mind, it might help to remember that dreams are rarely literal predictions. The one you had could just be a reflection of any fears (concsious or not) you've felt lately. Rather than actively trying not to think about the dream, you may consider delving into some pleasurable activity that requires your concentration (only you know what that would be for you). I'll bet that nightmare will vanish from your mind as soon as you've given yourself something more positive to focus on!

Peace and serenity.

KJS

KJS,
Thank you for your input. It feels good to have a reply before I have to head off to class. It can get kind of lonely out here. Anyway, thank you for your suggestions. I edited the specifics out of my post and I plan on re-reading that part in "Gooberz". Do you remember where it is, by chance?
I'm off to my Romantic Literature class...so I'll be diving into Wordsworth and Burns...not all bad.

thank you again,

LMB

LMB,

I believe that information is toward the end of her long talk with Heathcliffe, which is near the end of Gooberz.

Romantic poetry ain't so bad. In fact, I'd rather be studying Romantic poetry right now!

What a wonderful exchange! LMB, I'm very sorry for your frightening dream ... and that Linda's quote for today seemed to add to it. But KJS, your caring reply was right on the money, and I hope it helped.

It's a fact, spiritual truths can sometimes be very frightening. We really have the power to create our own reality, for good or for ill, and that's an awesome responsibility when you consider it. But KJS' suggestion brought home the real point, which is that we can use this information to change things. If we know that repeatedly imagining negative occurrences can actually give them power and bring them about, then we also know how to keep them away: by NOT feeding them with our imagination and mental energy! That's something worth knowing.

Thank you both for your openness and sharing.
