Hello everyone. I am inspired today to write a lot on the board (could be because my classes are cancelled for today) and I was thinking about all the wonderful quotes Linda Goodman has given us through "Gooberz" and "Venus" and all her other books. And I was thinking about all the beautiful sentiments that I've read from others here on the board. And I was thinking about all the wonderful song lyrics that are poignant to me...and other poems and such. So I decided to begin a thread devoted to quotes. Now in the subject heading, what does "jellicle" mean, you ask? It's one the words in my own vocabulary. Those of you familiar with musical theatre, namely "Cats", might now the word from that. Indeed, my definition was inspired by that show. I just loved the word "jellicle" and it just harmonized with me. I was 17 and decided to modify the meaning a bit and use it in my vocabulary. So...you use jellicle when something is just too beautiful and meaningful to express and you can't think of a single word to use. For instance, this website is jellicle. The interactions I've made with people here is jellicle. Linda Goodman certainly is the epitomy of jellicleness!!!! Her books are oh-so-jellicle!! So without further ado, let's start posting our favorite quotes and sentiments!

I'll start...

"Truth is discovered alone, in silence, before it can be shared with others through words"
Linda Goodman, "Gooberz" (the dedications in the beginning).

I do love that quote...I think Linda said that someone else said it, but I'm not sure. (perhaps Ruth Cook or Nona Stodart, I don't recall).

LMB, I love this idea! This is one of my favorites:

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. You playing small doesn't serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. You were born to manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
-Nelson Mandela

Brilliant idea

And I have to say I just might adopt the word Jellicle for those moments when words just can't convey..........LMB you are JELLICLE.

Here is a special quote of mine........

"The measure of a man, is not where he stands during comfort and convenience...... but where he stands during controversy and challenge."
Thank you......Martin Luther King

And here are some I hear on a daily basis from Crystal Bush what beautiful little gems I gather.......

"Do what is right when NO-ONE is looking!"

"Never compromise on great principles!"

Keep posting this is fun

Love and Laughter,
Kelly-Anne

Kelly-Anne,

*haha* Do you WANT me to burst into happy tears in this computer lab in front of all these people??
Thank you for the wonderful compliment. In fact, on my meter, that is the best compliment I can ever receive.

Yes. Thanks for reminding me, Shagun, I think special attention needs to be placed on Linda Goodman's wise wise quote...

I feel it holds many secrets and mysteries within it.

Hi everyone,
Shagun, you hit the bullseye!! I love "It's always darkest before dawn." From my own experiences, I have found that to be very true and it in essence started me on my own spiritual quest!!!
I have this embroidered and framed and look to it each and everyday:
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
And the wisdom to know the difference.
-The Bible

Oh yes, the serenity prayer is a MUST. I have repeated it MANY times in my life. I consider it to be one of the building blocks of our psychological, spiritual and just all-around life foundation...or at least it should be.

And there's always the Golden Rule that I remember my mother pounding into my head as a child, if nothing else: treat others the way you'd like them to treat you.

One of my favorite quotes comes from my favorite musical and piece of theatre of all time - "Les Miserables" (I have a deep-seeded obsession with this and have seen it 8 times)...

"To love another person is to see the face of God"
I try to remember this when I get fed up with the human race. It reminds me of universal unconditional love...and also reminds me to appreciate those I love even more.

"...and who would ever guess...the powers that you possess...and who would be stunned to see you prove...there's more to us than surgeons can remove! So much more than we ever knew...so much more we were born to do. Should you draw back the curtain, of this I am certain...you'll be impressed with you! On a clear day, rise and look around you...and you'll see who you are. On a clear day how it will astound you...when the glow of your being outshines every star!"

...Linda sang this to her first Adept on New Year's Day 1970 in the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel...
