Hi Dani!
LOL I don't believe I will be needing anyone to plow me out of a snowstorm down here...but thanks anyway
Racism is NOT reserved for the South...that's just another stereotype!
I don't mind jokes, if they are told in a kind spirit, and not just to make people uncomfortable...political correctness is just as bad as any "-ism" it might be meant to control...but what I do mind is a person being condescending to me in any way...and I think that has to be dealt with in a no-nonsense manner, being nice about it just doesn't work.
Now, I think that's a strong statement you made about people dying off...isn't that the very attitude that got the world into this mess to start with? Tolerance at the most BASIC level means we don't need anybody to "die off" to make the world a better place.

I absolutely agree with you. It is a strong statement. One very unlike me to say.
I've come to feel that way as I've grown older and see how many people are unwilling to change their way of thinking...The man I referred to at my job is a perfect example.
Even tho' I have known this man since I was 16--I am now 39---even tho' I have often discussed racism with him---he is no where nearer to seeing we are all brothers and sisters than he ever was before.
He still feels superior to Africans American--Native Americans---my oldest daughter is half chinese---and the man still refers to Asians as gooks---right in front of me.
In the meantime he has raised 3 sons and a daughter---who sound just like him.
It's because of people like that that I feel it's going to take another couple of generations to stop this nonsense.

My children are taught that we like or dislike people based on whether or not they are rotten Human Beings---never their skin color or religion---or the size of their wallets.

It's just that not everyone raises their kids as I do.
There is a man at our church who is paranoid Schizophrenic---did I spell that right?
People are so frightened by him it's sad.

Not my kids!!! They always say Hi and chat a bit with him---and my little saggy will cross the church during the Peace to shake his hand.
He has slowly come to realize that he can trust my family. He's still quite shy around me so I do not press---I can come across as ah-- well--overzealous. teehee---yeah yeah that's it overzealous.
Anyway we shake hands every week now and talk a little bit. He really likes my husband.
Other kids at church are actually hustled away from him by their holy parents who don't want their children contaminated.
That kind of behavior really gets my irish up.

So yes it was a very strong statement and I pray I do not start anything with it.I would not want to anger anyone.

It is up to all of us to honor Martin Luther Kings words when he said that one day all of his children--(US) would be judged not by their skin color but by the content of their character.

Whew and all of this talk started over sterotyping a sun sign!!!

Peace my friends

Dani

Dani, your statement did not anger me, I just don't quite understand your logic (?).

I actually believe the world is a BIG enough place for everybody to be who they are and get along WITHOUT anyone needing to leave or "die off"...Many people ARE unwilling to change...and I don't expect them to! I can go on and live my life without those people in my life...and I don't need for them to die to not have them in my life!
Because the world IS a big enough place.

In fact, wars are started primarily because people believe the world is NOT big enough for everyone...wars begin because people start thinking along the lines of "somebody has to die off so I can have what I want".

But there IS enough room for everybody to coexist, if only we can (may I quote you?)
"LOVE each other in SPITE of our differences."

I wish you peace on your journey.
