Hi there, Lis,
I've been enjoying your bright, shiney posts around the forums.
And hi Nephthys,
Fun to see you in either incarnation.
By way of introduction, I've been hanging out here in Lindaland, off and on, since back in the days when you could actually keep track of all the threads. It's amazing how fast the place has taken off.
I don't think I've ever started a thread here in the public forums. I guess I'm more a Mary Poppins sort -- I pop in where I feel I'm being called and then pop out again.
Being a local here in the Cripple Creek district, when people on the forums first started talking about coming out here I have to admit I was kind of like "umm, well, gee," and like Lis said, not exactly eager for a blizzard. (Thanks for your consideration, Lis, truly!)
But the fact is, this area has always counted on an element of tourism to help make it tick. And, as I wrote to Rainbow over on The Sky Laughs Today thread, [Sorry, oudated link! Use search engine.]000928.html" , the crowds coming in for the casinos and mining history seem (to me) to co-exist with us in a kind of layered-on separate reality that really doesn't detract from the peaceful smallness of the community.
Anyway, as long as we've got crowds coming through, methinks, wouldn't it be nice if one of those crowds were a group of spiritually minded folks, like those on LG.net, bringing a loving energy to town?
So that's where I am with the idea now, and I've offered privately to Greg and Crystal to function as an on-site coordinator, a go-between for the site and all the various sorts of people and services in and around town who could help make this go smoothly. They basically said, "Yes! Let's do it, but not right this minute." Among other things, I write from time to time for our little newspaper, so I'm pretty well-versed on who does what around the area. I have brought the idea up to one top-level Cripple Creeker and gotten a positive response. The town is pretty well set up, with transportation, lodgings, meeting places, etc., for this type of gathering, and my guess is it won't actually turn out to be thousands who make the trip. That WOULD be unwieldy.
It will take some lead time, not only for the LG.net personnel but also here "on the ground," because Cripple Creek does host other festivals and such, and scheduling will be important. So I guess that's just another reason to stayed tuned.
Popping out now,
Hugs,
WriteOn
