Gautam Siddharth was born about 566 B.C. on the full-moon night of the month of Jyesth, the lunar month lasting from mid-April to mid-May. He is said to have been born in a mango grove at a place called Lumbini near the borders of present-day India and Nepal, where his father was king of the Sakya clan.
