Star Watch

Happy Birthday, all you Scorpios — November is your month!

Maybe it’s the deep watery nature of Scorpio, or the “underworld” energy of its ruling planet Pluto, that makes November seem spooky and mysterious and hard to fathom; or maybe it’s just that it follows close on the heels of Hallowe’en, when the veil between the physical and spiritual worlds is at its thinnest. In any event, November is especially mysterious this year, being an intense election year with a hotly contested race that many consider a matter of “life and death” for the future of the United States, and in many respects the entire world!

This intensity is underscored by a very strange Veterans Day (U.S.) configuration. On November 11 (11/11), Uranus (ruled by the number 11) goes direct at 11:11 a.m. (PST)! I’m not sure what to make of all these 11’s, folks, but it’s a safe bet to assume that something quite unexpected will take place. If not on that exact day, the stage is being set for unusual happenings of an archetypal nature in the near future.

According to Dane Rudhyar’s Astrological Mandala, the Sabian symbol for 3 degrees Pisces (the degree at which Uranus makes its station) represents mankind’s ability to preserve social records. So how does this tie in to the unexpected? Personally, I think there’s some synchronicity afoot in the sense that what has been preserved, but hidden, will unexpectedly come to light, challenging us to review and understand our culture in a way that has been heretofore totally unheard of. Perhaps dramatic revelations may come to light that will cause us to understand ourselves and our place in the world in a whole new perspective. Of course, I’m speaking in a more global sense here, but I also think all this 11/11, 11:11 and Uranus 11 energy means something individually; perhaps signaling a desire for more freedom and a more rebellious drive to achieve it. If such is your reaction, the state of today’s world indicates you won’t be a rebel without a cause! Look to your natal Uranus and the aspects it makes to transiting Uranus for further enlightenment.

I know that I’ve been noticing for the past couple of years the time on the clock being 11:11 quite frequently when I glance at it, and many folks have noticed 11’s popping up in their lives all over the place. Have you had experiences with the number 11 in any way, shape or form? If so, I think the Universe is trying to tell us something about sudden and unexpected change.

Looking at the calendar, the first week in November is election week, of course, with the Lights in harmony and Mercury trining Saturn on election day. This doesn’t say much about the candidates, but it should be a rather nice day for focus and communication, especially about political issues. Perhaps this election will be marked by more critical thinking than usual! Wednesday the 3rd looks like a busy, somewhat confusing, but lively day. The confusing part is Sun squaring Neptune while Moon opposes it. Hopefully that won’t mean a repeat of the confusion that followed the last presidential election, but we’re likely to feel a bit spacey at least.

It’s also a propitious time for a little drama with all the influence of Neptune (illusion) and with the Moon in the sign of the performer (Leo). In fact, the aspects speak of celebration, as Venus conjoins Jupiter and the Moon sextiles both! Party time, anyone? Don’t get too carried away, though, as you may pay the price on Saturday the 6th with Mercury squaring Uranus (sudden temper) and Mars squaring Saturn (might makes right). There could be a backlash in the political arena at this time, with some people coming to blows over it. Be cool!

On Monday the 8th, Saturn retrogrades at 27 degrees Cancer, highlighting a time when security becomes even more of an issue — not that it hasn’t already dominated the elections and world news for a long time — and this may prompt us to re-think what makes us feel safe. Venus trines Neptune, helping us to see that we’re all part of the “human condition,” which should arouse our more compassionate nature, as well as sparking the realization that no one on our little planet can be truly “secure” until we all are. This is also a good aspect for helping the downtrodden, or taking a little down time for self and soul.

November 9-14 (except for the eerie 11th that I’ve already mentioned) sees a lot of sextiles and lunar aspects, indicating lighter, fleeting experiences and friendly times with others. On the 12th there’s a New Moon in 21 degrees Scorpio, trine Saturn … so for the following two weeks let your conscience be your guide, even if that means not following the path of least resistance. Again, we have a lot of spacey Neptune on the 13th, but it’s a Saturday and more inspiring due to Mercury and Moon sextiling Neptune, followed by what should be a good time to deal with the public on Sunday as Venus sextiles Pluto.

Mars trines Uranus on the 15th. If you’re needing astute judgment in some matter, this is a good time, when sudden implulses and rational activities are both on the same page. For finalizing business deals or accomplishing mundane matters, utilize the Sun-trine-Saturn aspect on the 18th to help climb the mountain, so to speak, and get unfinished work out of the way, as the Moon is in Capricorn that day.

Venus squares Saturn on the 19th, and Mercury conjoins Pluto on the 20th, so remember that it’s okay to back off a little rather than take out your frustrations on a loved one; especially since the Mercury-Pluto energy has an edge to it. Make amends for any harm done these days on Sunday the 21st — when the Moon trines Sun and Saturn, and the Sun enters clown-like Sagittarius.

November 22-24 looks sociable enough for Thanksgiving plans, although perhaps with a bit of adventure and unexpected happenings thrown into the mix for spice on Wednesday the 24th (Sun square Uranus and Venus trine Uranus). Hopefully any upset will be readily resolved. Thursday the 25th, Thanksgiving Day in the United States, looks pretty low-key to me, with the Moon in Taurus sextiling Saturn. Creature comforts and extra desserts are the appropriate themes of the day! A full Moon the day after, in the talkative sign of Gemini, almost guarantees there will be a lot of chirpy chatter among family and friends.

A Jupiter-Neptune trine on the 29th may incline you to expand your boundaries in a spiritual sense, but caution is advised physically, as you may have regrets the day after when Mars squares Neptune and Mercury goes stationary/retrograde. Time for a reality check, and time to tie up loose ends in preparation for the usual mayhem of a retrograde Mercury the next three weeks!
