Star Watch

’Tis the season to be jolly …

This is Sagittarius’ time of year, when most everyone is at their most merry and generous, happily spreading good tidings and cheer and sharing in laughter, love and good times with family and friends. This is the time of year when people all over the world are celebrating Hanukkah, Yule, Christmas, Kwanzaa and New Year’s Eve. This is the last month of the year — a time when autumn leaves have finished falling from the trees and nature begins to yawn and stretch in preparation for winter’s hibernation.

The main event that starts the month off is Mercury turning retrograde (November 30 – December 19). This is Mercury’s time to lay himself down to sleep and recharge his communicative batteries. It is time to reflect and review the experiences of the last three months and make plans for how you want the next three to be. It is not the time to start new Mercury-related projects or endeavors, which is why all forms of communication seem to move so slowly and go haywire when we try. At the time Mercury stations retrograde, often an unresolved issue or unanswered question will come to your attention. During the 10 days that follow, it is an excellent time to put your energies toward researching and gathering information that will help you answer these questions, resolve the situation or complete a Mercury-related project.

Two major aspects color the month of December. First we have the glorious influence of the jolly and generous Jupiter in Libra trining the nebulous and nostalgic Neptune in Aquarius gracing the days of this final month of 2004. The tremendous energy of this aspect is likely to increase the generosity and charitable nature of the season. We may also feel an increase of optimism and enthusiasm to bring life to our creative projects and make our dreams come true. Psychic vision is also increased under the influence of these two planets, making the practice of meditation and power of prayer that much more astounding. The other major aspect influencing the last half of the month is an opposition between Saturn, the celestial father, and his child Chiron, the wounded healer, making this a wonderful time for healing any old wounds between parents and children, just in time for the holiday season. What a tender and loving way to end a “six” (2+0+0+4) year!

The month starts off in the aftermath of Mars square Neptune, so it’s essential to beware of deceitful actions. With this kind of energy looming about, it is possible for people to fall prey to an act of violence, theft or an accident; so please, especially with Mercury also being retrograde, be especially watchful of where you are going and what you are doing. Venus also comes in for a square to Neptune on the 2nd, so you’ll want to be watchful of your wallet, as well as your heart. There is the chance of being manipulated and later disappointed under this influence. The beautiful Jupiter and Neptune trine becomes activated by a sextile from the Sun on the 4th and 5th, lending creative energy to your dreams or vision. Venus, the Goddess of beauty and love, meets up with Mars, her warrior lover, for a two-week rendezvous in the hot, steamy and intense sign of Scorpio, creating the perfect blend of intimacy, passion and love that is bound to put any heart on fire.

Mercury and Pluto join forces on the 7th, indicating that it’s time to let go of a way of thinking or communicating in favor of a brand new way. This energy is also great for reading and doing research. Mental energy is at an all-time high when retrograde Mercury conjuncts the Sun on the 10th. Now is the time that your mind will become crystal clear and likely to receive flashes of insight that will help you answer your questions and resolve problems and issues left over from the most recent cycle of Mercury. The new Moon on the 11th brings with it the desire for new adventures, experiences and higher learning in relation to the house that it falls in your chart. The Sun and Pluto merge their energies on the 13th, making it a time to shed the old skin of your identity just in time for the start of a brand new year.

The healing energy promised for the latter half of the month begins to take shape between the 11th and the 13th when loving Venus comes into tender contact with the Saturn and Chiron opposition. Energy like this is just what the doctor ordered when trying to put back together the pieces of a broken heart. Also, matters of the heart become more serious now, and there is a tendency to budget your finances and spend more carefully too. Mercury sextiles the Jupiter and Neptune trine between the 12th and 14th, making the connection between worlds a lot clearer and dreams more meaningful. This is the time when thoughts are more positive and there is laughter and happy conversation in the air. It is an excellent time to start making some concrete plans for your next Mercury-type project.

The Goddess of Love trades her sexy negligee for a sweat suit as she leaves the sign of Scorpio and enters Sagittarius on the 16th. Venus is leaving the bedroom and making her way out into the great outdoors, to the library and to church, where she can make herself available for new and exciting experiences that will make her heart beat faster. She is laughing, learning and spending her money more freely throughout the rest of the month.

Mars lends his active energy to the Saturn and Chiron opposition between the 17th and the 19th, making this a wonderful time to heal from any angry words or assaults you may have fallen victim to earlier in the month. This is also a great time to begin a new exercise program because your actions and energy are a lot more serious and disciplined now. You may be feeling the pressure from a boss or authority figure on the 17th, with the Sun quincunx to Saturn, so it’s a good idea to watch your stress levels now, lest they become a hazard to your health later on. The possibility of a sudden change or reversal in your love life or to your finances is possible on the 19th, with Venus squaring Uranus, so try not to be too free with your money or with your heart at this time.

On the 20th it’s time for Mercury to wake up and get out of dreamland. The time has come once again for Mercury to move forward in writing projects and decision-making and begin yet another three-month cycle of mental pursuits. If you don’t already keep a journal, now is a great time to begin one to keep track of your thought processes throughout each Mercury cycle. The Sun enters the sign of Capricorn on the 21st, lending more structure, boundaries and rules to your creative projects. It’s time to take what you’ve learned during the past 30 days and build a foundation for your career aspirations. The Sun comes into electrifying contact with Uranus on the 24th, putting a burst of wild and crazy energy in the air just in time for Christmas gatherings. It’s Mars’ turn to leave the sign of Scorpio and enter Sagittarius on the 25th, adding a lot more fun and laughter to the holiday season. The Full Moon on the 26th can make the transition from “home for the holidays” to “back to work” a little harder to make.

Chatty Mercury teams up with loving Venus on the 28th, adding warmth and love to your thoughts and words. People will tend to speak more from the heart while under this influence. Both Mercury and Venus will sextile the Jupiter/Neptune trine between the 27th and the 30th, ending the year on a joyous and exquisite note. This is excellent energy for charity work and for communing with a loved one on the other side. Prayers spoken from the heart are very powerful at this time. The year ends with a bang when Mars squares Uranus on the 31st. The chance for a sudden burst of anger, a surprise attack or an accident is likely under this volatile influence.

December is all about going within (or without) to find the answers you are seeking, and healing any pain of the past year to make way for an exciting and prosperous new year. If you can steer clear of the challenges that often come with the squares from Venus and Mars to Uranus and Neptune, then it should be smooth sailing to the promising shore of dreams come true. Happy Holidays everyone!
